Demers is a young (7th rounder), unproven third tier D. The one thing we have is an overabundance of third tier D and will have a revolving door with our AHL team all year with 3 or 4 of them.

Counter offer:

Clutterbuck for Burns
You simply do not know what your talking about. Your over hyping your player while slamming on a player you clearly know nothing about.

Clutterbuck is an excellent 3rd liner, but he's just that, a 3rd liner. He does not crack the top-6 of a stanley cup team, simple as that. I'd love to have the guy, but 3rd liners simply are not that important compared to top-4 d-men.

Demers is a top-4 puck moving two-way d-man. He is very comparable to Zidlicky but is better defensively. He does need to continue to work on his defensive game, but he improved dramatically last season. The round he was taken in has absolutely no bearing on his value, and he absolutely has Boyle level upside. His game is nearly identical to Boyle's and he's as good a skater.

You don't trade a young top-4 d-man with very realistic first pairing potential for a 3rd liner, no matter how good that 3rd liner is.

Gah! I'm honorable and will abstain from tainting the vote, but I will watch it...and pet it...and love it...George

That poll is worthless because you did not put a "Does not make sense for either team" option, which is the answer.

Minnesotta can't afford to give up Clutterbuck, and the Shark's can't afford to trade a young top-4 dman for a 3rd liner.

Didn't mean to sound harsh if it did. Just saying that the poll is slanted imo.

You both can be right. There's nothing wrong with having a poll on this, but believing both teams are a worse team if the trade is made is not out of the question. Much like us trading Heatley for Burns. If we made that trade back it could be worse for both teams as we need Burn's D and they need Heater's points.

I don't have a problem with a poll, I was just saying it was missing a very important option, that fair or not, the deal doesn't make sense for either team.

In a vacuum, I still don't do this deal because top-4 d-men are harder to find than 3rd liners, and have a bigger impact, but it's not hugely lopsided.

That's what I was trying to say you said lol.

His response to you in the poll thread was that it deserved a poll. All I was trying to point out is that each of your points are not mutually exclusive.

Both have great contracts and it addresses both needs of the teams. Problem is each team is giving up too much: Sharks don't have the defensive depth to give up, and the Wild can't give up another fan favorite and don't have an easy replacement.

Ya I know, I was just re-iterating so he knew I didn't mean to be rude, wasn't my intention. I was just being blunt. Nothing but respect for Spin.

I didn't take it as rude, which is why my edited comment was too harsh. no worries at all

that is about as idiotic as you can get... most shark fans are agreeing neither team would do it but you clearly have no idea what you are talking about...

I am really enjoying listening to all the casual hockey fans flip out over something they don't understand. I in no way diminished the potential of demers but nevertheless, he is a rookie with one season under his belt...period. Your tendency to overvalue your own talent is clearly evident. He is NOT a top pairing D. He had a nice rookie season, netted a couple of goals and has seemingly a bright future. I have seen him play and I am sure Shark fans are excited to have him. The point here is that Clutterbuck is known throughout the league as the standard for a checking specialist (amongst many other attributes). To deny that is to not understand simply facts. I provided a link to back my statement. Demers is nowhere near the value caliber of a Clutterbuck to the seasoned hockey fan. Typically when people resort to insults, it shows that they lack knowledge of what they are talking about.
