If the Kings and Doughty can't agree to anything, the Jets will need to overpay since teams would offer much better.

Let's say, for whatever insane reason, Doughty and Parise can't come to an agreement.

To Kings:

- Parise
- Larrson

To Devils:

- Doughty
- Bernier

You swap two superstars. Doughty becomes the Devils future, so they give the Kings Larsson as a piece they can build around with Forbort/Johnson. In return, Kings give up Bernier, one of the best young goalies in the game, and the Devils can look into the future without Marty. Add draft picks if you wish.

Even then, I'm sure a lot of fans from both fans would say no.

devils woudln't do this...
Larsson might be as good as doughty and is nhl ready. which makes the trade parise for bernier.

Larsson doesn't have Doughty's offensive upside. He'll be a good 2-way d-man though.

A 21 year old Norris trophy finalist and a prospect who has yet to play a shift in the NHL isn't analogous.

Doughty+Stoll+Kitsyn+2nd in 2013

Kane+Bogosian+Ladd

close? Keep in mind, it would take an overpayment to get Doughty.

To get Doughty you would need to offer Enstrom + Burmistrov, just for starters. LA will go all-out to re-sign Doughty, and won't let him go without imploding your team.

Basically a deal that might get LA listening is:

Doughty, Penner, Moller, 2nd
for
Enstrom, Burmistrov, Ladd, 1st

Obviously Winnepeg has no reason to do this but that package might get some negotiations going.

1) LA is going to get Doughty signed.

2) In the crazy chance it doesnt go well, a Jets offer of Kane, Bogosian, Byfuglien... well I think the Kings would take a serious look at that. Or switching out one of the above for Ladd or Enstrom perhaps.

But thats seriously going to hurt the Jets giving up 3 key pieces.

as a devils fan i say hell no to this. doughty is good, but larsson could end up being pretty close. so no way is bernier worth parise.

from winnipeg, it would have to start with kane, at which point it's not worth it. they already have one of the top 10 d-men in the nhl in enstrom. there's no reason for them to give up what it would take to get doughty.

obviously i am a little biased in my thoughts on the value of the players involved but i see Parise and Doughty as having near equal value, with Doughty having just more due to his age. saying that a deal i think is at least close would be Parise + Urbom for Doughty. i doubt the Kings bite on that (same with the Devils) i just see that as a good deal value wise.

The Kings have no reason to trade a player who I believe will become their best defenseman ever and top 5 in NHL history.

If he's traded it'll be like Larry Murphy all over again and the second betrayal may end up being more bitter than the first.

If the Kings get back the equivalent of Brian Engblom and Ken Houston again I'm going to be sick.

It's going to take a lot more than that to get Doughty, i'd be willing to give up Keith and a 1st for him. Doughty is younger and has more potential and IMO is already the best defenseman in the league.

Doughty has more trade value than Parise by a sizable margin. Doughty is a franchise #1 defenseman and is very young. They're more valuable then a first liner any day, and given the fact that Parise is older and is injury prone there's no comparison.

After Orr Borque Lidstron the list becomes elite but not untouchable and in fact DD could come close to Lidstrom if he plays as long and continues to develop his game then anything is possible. Norris candidate at 20yrs is ridiculous.

Dear hfboard,

Doughty will remain in LA. Please deal with it and stop with these ridiculous trades.

Thank you.

And I am NOT saying it is a valid source or a real possibility. Note that I did NOT start a thread that said rumor. I am just repeating the rumor and a rumor.
Thanks for the link and sorry about calling "BS" on the rumor. Glad to see a source behind this.
