The Whitecaps need help on the back line; is Harvey a strong left back?

Vancouver's MVP, Alain Rochat is the normal left back but, due to an injury to centre back (and captain) Jay Demerit, Rochat has been moved to the middle.
harvey was pretty dreadful last year, has been average/serviceable this year. gotta figure this is due to the addition of valdes and mondragon. he offers nothing offensively for you

gotta figure nowak and company have something up their sleeve. the farfans dont inspire much confidence back there. i'm skeptical that daniel can handle it, as some suggest. makes you wonder if they will do something next friday with the rumors of spector and bocanegra returning. union are second in allocation order...

I don't really think Harvey was any better/worse this year than last...just that his tendency to get caught too far up the pitch was better masked by this year's stronger defensive core (Valdes, Califf, Carroll).

Spector would be an interesting signing, although I've mostly seen him at RB. Certainly, after dealing Harvey, Nowak alluded to the need to keep maximum financial flexibility to make future signings...

I'm guessing Spector is out of our price range though. I'd be all for giving him a pay-day here though. He is legit. I have no issue with a quality wing-back being a DP. He can play more then just LB or RB.

I agree, and really, Nowak deploys the outside backs pretty far upfield already, so Spector would be a good fit. Certainly, service from the wings is something the Union need work on...

I dont care what anyone say LeToux has been terrible this year and it isnt Ruiz's fault. The man just has had no touch dribbling or shooting. Maybe it was that ankle injury in the beginning of the year and he never let it heal right but something is up. Right now Mwanga and Ruiz are our best forwards.

Also I am fine with the Harvey trade. Open to Daniel or Farfan in the back. I'd say either wingback, attacking mid or forward DP is what this team needs. LeToux needs a game or two off to get his head straight. Maybe he's just played too many minutes the past two years but something is off with his head and his touch.

US is playing Mexico at the Linc on August 10th.

EDIT: which was apparently reported a few days ago. Good job ESPN.

It's not worth it to me to go. Timing is bad, doubtful we'll see the top players from either side. And they didn't cut prices at all.

They just played each other in a meaningful game. If this was next year, I'd probably go. But there's no buzz for this at all.

While proceeds go to a worthwhile cause, I can't see fighting rush hour traffic on the blue route just to see the SOBs play the management.

I'll be watching on ESPN3....I'm hoping the commentary isn't Spanish on there also, but it probably will just be the Spanish ESPN's broadcast.

Yeah, I guess I'll watch it on that. Just seems like a dumb move from the Union's standpoint.

This is probably the most interesting game they've ever played (Man. U. played their scrubs against them), and while I can watch replays of them vs. the Real Redbullzzz and Everton all day on CSN, I have to stream this just to watch in a different language.

If you want to blame someone for it not being on TV, the finger should probably be pointed at the Eagles, shouldn't it?

Our defense could not be worse. It's painful to watch, and I had to x out.

They're not playing bad. They've had their chances and haven't capitalized. Ruiz, Le Toux, and Califf had prime opportunities. They had a couple brain farts, and Madrid made them pay.
