I think what is most likely going on is that both sides would agree to a one year deal for something in the 7-8 million range rather than going to arbitration. they will negotiate right up until August 2, and if they are still far apart, they pull the trigger on the one year deal, which means they can spend this next season working on a long term deal.
I would think so to, especially since there is no walk away option with his arbitration so we are guaranteed to be able to re-sign him for at least one year.
however, just in case he was serious, someone with a twitter account tell blum to tell Weber that if he doesnt re-sign long term Im gonna pelt him with big globs of earwax during the preskate opening night..
Sorry to nitpick, but, barring a trade, we will have him for two years. Shea isn't eligible for UFA status until July 1, 2013.
I saw something on one of the major websites that stated if Weber accepts a one year contract from arbitration that he's an UFA at the end of the contract. Forget which website it was but it was one of the big ones that have good info.
