Pretty good overview. He underrates the Hayes and overrates Pirri a bit. I also agree that Holl is a much better prospect than we give him credit for. He's a big kid with poise and speed on the blue line. Another year in Minny will do him well.
Interesting to see Jimmy ahead of Kevin. Perhaps some wishful thinking, and most agree he's not ready yet, but I'd love to see him progress to the point that he gets a shot to be a PF on this team. Goodness knows we need it!
Olsen in 8th, hopefully, is not accurate but it seems to reflect that he is at least a year away before he has a serious shot to make the jump.
I don't see Hawks rushing any of these guys in, now that the SC hang-over and related salary cap issues are more or less behind us.
How has Chicago had the chance to get fantastic prospects? The last time we drafted in the top 15 we got Beach who most on this board are just about ready to give up on...
Jarnkrok, Pulkkinen, Tatar and Nyquist are all high-end offensive prospects and than Brendan Smith is one of the better Dman prospects in the NHL.
If you're looking at potential career impact, than Detroit easily has one of the best prospect pools in the league, they're players just aren't as likely to reach their high-end level.
He wasn't talking about the Hawks, he was talking about the 4 teams ranked ahead of us. The 3 non-Detroit teams have had chances to get fantastic prospects, so it's expected for them to be ahead of us, but Detroit is another story.
Detroit has been good drafting 4-5 years in a row with less picks. Not complaining about our prospects but Detroit is ahead.
Completely disagree with this. Sorry, I don't buy into the hype. After seeing them hype up guys like Kindl and Ericsson.... lol. Kindl was their top prospect and he is junk. Much like Ericsson(who they just gave 3 mil a year to haha).
Brendan Smith is awful defensively. Remember when Ben Smith undressed him in the Toronto tournament? He made him his ***** and it was hilarious. He is 22 years old and put up similar numbers to Shawn Lalonde. Lalonde actually was 8th on Rockford's team in points and Brendan Smith was 10th on G.R.
Just another one of the Red Wings overrated prospects since the lockout. Kindl was the same way and now you see him thrown into almost every DRW trade proposal.
They have Jarnkrok, Jurco, Sheahan, Tatar, Mursak, ect. but most of their prospects are boom or bust and probably 90% will bust. People think that just because Detroit used to get lucky and find gems that they will continue doing so. They haven't done any better than the Hawks in recent history.
Our prospect depth absolutely dwarfs theirs. We have compiled tons of draft picks and much better ones than the Wings. We have the better prospects, the better young players, and the better future. I can't wait to see it all play out. I just hope the Wings don't escape to the Eastern Conference before their demise(look no further than Lidstrom's retirement).
