Staal, Biron, and Prust. I'm was excluding ELC's by the way.

I wouldn't say biron's that underpriced. He's a really great backup, but he's still getting the same salary as other backups.

i have no doubt that by the end of this season the clear winner in the "bang for the buck" category will be AA

Biron and Anisimov. I'm not counting guys on an ELC.

Not denying the value of AA's contract, but if you're excluding ELCs, is it fair to put the contract of an RFA with no arb rights up against deals signed by UFAs and RFAs with arb rights?

Mark Staal worth over $6M+ on the open market?? You have got to be kidding me! What exactly makes him worth the kind of money that elite defensemen such as Chara, Lidstrom, Keith, make? Time for a realty check.

Nice job pal.Biron is easily the choice here; how anybody in their right mind could pick Staal is beyond the realm of common sense and sanity-he's already making too much money.

IMO everyone is on pretty solid contracts. I'd have to say that the best deals are probably AA, McDonagh, and Sauer. By the end of the season I'll probably be saying Boyle, Stepan, and Erixon, I expect big years from the 3 of them.

I can see him fetching 5-6 million on an open market. He is a shutdown defenseman that plays a ton of minutes.

Players like Staal start getting 5-6 mil. and we're heading towards another lock-out.

James Wisniewski makes 5.5 million.

Staal would've EASILY made that on this last market. All star shutdown first pairing defenseman?

Yeah, 69 posts per day for a...oh wait.

I agree, though. If Boyle can improve his production to >40 points, while doing so consistently for the next 3 years, it'll be great value.

Then we're headed for trouble. Wisniewski, and players like him, being over-paid or over-valued will only lead to a lock-out. It did before and it will again. The higher the cap goes, the worse it's going to get. We'll pay for owner/GM irresponsibility...again.

The Wiz just posted a 51 pt season... Staal, not so much (under 30).

And Staal is infinitely better defensively.

Wisniewski is a powerplay specialist, Staal is an all-star first pairing defenseman.

The market pays more for offensive Dmen than defensive ones. That's just the way it is.

While true, Staal would've been the best defense man in this market. His age, talent, and success so far and I don't think he would've been had for less than Wisniewski.

Either that, or somebody would've given him a 10 year contract.

He wouldn't be on the open market though... he signed his recent deal as an RFA. It doesn't make sense to say pretend he was a UFA at that age while no other guys were UFAs instead of RFAs at that age. Point here is Staal isn't underpaid. His pay is fair for both sides.

on the basis of bang for the buck I would say Eminger who was 3rd on the team in blocked shots is the top dog

most reasonable contract for top performance on the ice I would say is Henrik Lundqvist since he plays the entire 60 minutes and has saved many a win for the team over the years

the player I am happiest about NY resigning is Dubinsky
