mlah =P was hoping we'd go young but good insurance. I hope we do not have any overaged camp invites now.
If the young guys are ready, they will play over him. You really shouldn't keep a young guy as the #7. You don't replace inexperienced youngsters with inexperienced youngsters. I think Eminger could be a good mentor for Valentenko.
He most defintley did. Playoffs too, no one could understand why Gilroy was in over him.
What exactly do you consider the stretch run...I posted earlier he dressed for 14 of the last 18 (March to end of regular season) and 9 of the last 10, the one game being the last game of the season. How exactly did he sit for the stretch run?
I haven't given up on anyone; I like Del Zotto a lot more than most, actually. His name slipped my mind.
I'm still a huge fan of MDZ and even then I don't think it would be a travesty if he started the year in Hartford if he wasn't amazing, to give Valentenko a chance.
However, RangerBoy keeps saying V-Tank is waiver exempt while everyone else says he's not, and i'm inclined to believe RangerBoy here so it's going to be a very interesting training camp.

I checked with Brian Ring a few days ago for clarification. Whale Media Relations Manager. According to Brian and the Whale,Valentenko will not have to clear waivers to play in the AHL this season. Capgeek has gotten Valentenko's status wrong so many times. Capgeek had Valentenko listed as a free agent in 2010 and 2011 when he owed the Rangers two years. If Valentenko had stayed in North America,he would have waiver eligible starting in 10-11 but he wasn't.
Dude has anyone been reading how stupid plenty of people are on the Rangers Facebook?

To summarize, 4 pages of people approving or loving this signing. I think it's pretty safe to say this is an excellent deal. Like for so many others, Eminger grew on me. He was steady and didn't commit that many costly mistakes that made you facepalm yourself during games. Not to mention he's continously clearing the crease.
A solid, physical 5-7th D-man for coffee money (in this business, hrrm)? Approved! I couldn't believe how Torts sat Eminger ahead of players like Gilroy, who was a mess most of the time.

Every time I get frustrated here, I know I can read the Rangers Facebook and feel better. Even the "uninformed" posters here have forgotten more about the game than the Facebook crowd will ever know.
Very happy with this signing. I killed Eminger as much as anyone at the beginning of last season, but the man really proved me wrong. He played well in the role that Torts gave him: steadying influence on the bottom pair with the ability to step in on the 2nd pairing temporarily and not be awful. He brought a physical element to our D as well, which was lacking it.
Eminger also seems like a genuinely nice guy and good locker room presence, and doesn't complain even when inferior players take his spot in the lineup (Gilroy).
Unlike most of the posters here I'd take Gilroy 9 times out of 10 over Eminger. I think Gilroy is the better player, and he's getting paid for it in Tampa. Going with the cheaper player is probably the right move for a team that is looking at a solid, young defensive core.

Guess I remembered the times wrong. But there was a stretch in the season where Eminger was often sitting in favor of Gilroy.
Was just thinking... this has been a hell of an offseason.
Erixon acquisition
Richards!
Good Draft
Dubi locked up
Anisimov resigned
Sauer resigned
Boyle resigned
Winter Classic
Feds back for a year
Rupp a good signing
Eminger back cheap
Boogaard tragedy (RIP)
Gilroy gone
Prospal gone
Drury bought out
Grachev traded
Garden Renovations
C. Thomas signed
Kreiders decision
Werek for Lindberg
LOCKUP Cally
Definitely been a busy summer. Now we just have another 7 weeks to get through before camp starts.
I think the need for a #7 is overrated here...we have plenty of depth in Hartford. Eminger serves as an insurance policy if the rookies don't step up out of the gate.

Yeah but the point of your typical number seven is to have a veteran presence, so you don't have to rely on an untested rookie to step into the lineup. We've been spoiled by having guys like Staal, Girardi, McDonagh and Sauer step right into the lineup, but it doesn't usually work that way. I'm much more comfortable with a veteran player as the seventh than a guy that has never played an NHL game.

Like who?
None of the defensemen that played in Hartford at the end of last season have even played any significant NHL time except Del Zotto.
If Kundratek, Pashnin, Erixon, MDZ, Valentenko all prove to be unready for NHL minutes, the hell do the Rangers do?
Eminger makes it so if need be, only one rookie need be rushed.
