I said this many times, and I won't back off my stance on it. The #1 goal this offseason was to find a top 6 with kesler, if this is not going to happen, especially with losing ehrhoff, its a failure.
I am sure many people will debate this with me, go nuts
if you go shopping for a top six
a) that is fast enough to play with Kesler
b) talented ie playmaking or goal scorer
c) is consistent as per b

d) is priced from slightly over priced to good value
e) fits our cap short term and long term( ie we dont have to sacrfice a major piece of our team this year or later...like say an edler due to cap)
f) doesnt jerpodize a better fit later this year due to a trade
g) or jepordizes a true top 6 at the deadline
h) his addition wont screw up the chemistry or work ethic of this team

so far there really wasnt a top six that fitted that role this offseason or willing to take a modest wage decrease from what he got to play here

and keep in mind there have been attempted deals that havnt come to frution-- yet?
and a much better selection at the trade deadline than what was avaliable this july

No, we still need Parise, Doan or Weber in that lineup.

Well that should be our big 4th liner signing for the summer, could be worse, hopefully BB stays healthy enough to play full time, to crash and bang.

Quote:
ASSETS: Is a mammoth physical specimen and a solid hitter. Can work the corners well and provide toughness for his team.
FLAWS: Doesn't assert himself enough in the offensive zone. Needs to shoot the puck more in order to become more of a goal-scoring threat.
CAREER POTENTIAL: Big-bodied winger.

Missed all 82 games of the regular season (sports hernia).

Well, at least the fringe players will be working very hard to earn their spot on the roster - i.e. Duco, Mancari, Oreskovich, now Bitz.

This could actually be a pretty a decent signing if he comes back 100% healthy but it's a two way deal, so it's not a big deal if it goes nowhere.

So we're at 46 contracts now with Hansen and Oreskovich still to sign. Of our draft picks from this year all but Grenier and Tommernes are eligible to have their contracts slide but I doubt MG is in a rush to sign any except Jensen. Then we have last year's picks, no rush there either.

Unless you're a first line... in which case it's a dream come true.

You're responding to a troll, just ignore him. If you want actual Bruins fans thoughts then read the main board thread. Most say it's a pretty decent signing.

Thank god we signed someone from Saskatchewan! I was worried once Glass left that we would start next season without a flatlander on the roster.

Everyone knows you need at least one player from Sask to win the cup.

super pumped!!!

this guy will fight, he's fairly big and plays hard and gritty. He hits like a truck and likes to run around pounding your door down. I picture him as a bigger Oreskovich who will drop the gloves when need be. He isn't a "fighter" and isn't the "heavyweight" we might be needing but this is a massive MASSIVE upgrade over glass, Bolduc, Desbien etc...as it sits unless someone else is signed I can't see our 4th line other than

Bitz 6'5" 215lbs - lappy 6'2" 207lbs - Oreskovich 6'3" 215lbs

by all means this is a very big, fast, hard hitting 4th line and probably the most physical one I can remember the Nucks icing in many many years. a huge up grade over

Desbien 6'3" 215lbs - 6'3" 200lbs - 6'1" 210lbs

If we sign a fighter such as Winchester or something I see Bitz and Oreskovich fighting for that last spot which is a good thing since they're both big boys who play hard and hit

I cant recall a big hit by Oreskovich. He had 32 hits in 19 playoff games. less than 2 hits per game. And that was essentially his only job.

If he's not hitting, he's useless because he sure as hell cant score.

Why does it have to be before the season stars? Because youre impatient? Do you deny that this team is already a division winner as is? If not, then nothing has to be done until the deadline if nothing opens up.

When you think about it, that may be the best option. Two of the best potential additions (Doan or Morrow) may only become available once their teams start to lose, and Phoenix and Dallas should both be mediocre.

Judge Gillis by the roster going into the playoffs, not the one going into the season (which is better than the one that started the season last year).

I always noticed Bitz for good reasons in the few NHL games I saw him play. I like this signing given its low risk, decent upside, and because he apparently goes to the dirty areas.

Wow I remember a lot of hits thrown by oreskovich. And given his limited opportuniy I think he played very well. He's got great speed for a big guy and he hits that's more than I can say about our 4th line in the past 3 playoff runs

In all likelihood, this is replacement for Desbiens as a big body on the farm who can come up and play some 4th line minutes as needed.

May have the ability to be a 4th line roster player for the team at some point, but isnít very likely to happen out of camp after heís missed a year with serious injury issues.

Agreed!!

(also from Sask.)

Except he's from Saskatoon so thus he loses points.

My biggest question is, hows his skating?

Its a kind of curious move. Bitz has 2 inches on Oreskovich and comes in at the same weight while registering near the same amount of hits per game. Is Bitz more of a fighter compared to Oreskovich (who isn't a good one)? Seems like these two RHS will battle it out for 4th line RW while the other gets to watch.

He's a good skater but rarely threw a "good hit" so to speak. I'd say that Lapierre and Torres were throwin much bigger hits. Even Tambellini.
