I personally hope Kopitar doesn't lose his spot too Richards after years of being one of the faces of the kings.

Kopi will but really there won't be a difference. They'll both get the same amount of ice time.

Both Lombardi and Murray have referred to Kopi and Richie and ''1a and 1b' and I think that's the most realistic way to view them. I think Penner and Williams should remain with Kopi on the top line. Gagne and Richards are magic together and adding in Brown (whose a physical guy like Richie) and that's a dynamic line with scoring fire. What a luxury for the Kings-to two have premiere young centers, so very talented. What is does is put a lot of pressure of opposing teams to figure how which line to put their best defenders against. If they both stay healthy, the Kings will be the best team in the West and one of the tops in the league, putting up big numbres.
Mike Richards averages over the last 4 years:'
28 Goals, 42 assists, 70 points, 125.5 hits, 20 fights...
October can't come soon enough....

Irrelevant!

You know what constitutes our first line? The one that the other team throws their shutdown guys at. Some nights it'll be the Kopitar line. Other nights it will be the Richards line. Opponents get to pick their poison.

Ah, the beauty of having two legit number 1 centers...

I don't remember Butch playing center. I thought he was a winger. But then again, I was only 8 or 9 back then and didn't follow them nearly as much as I do today.

It all depends on the situation, if the Kings need a goal, Kopitar will need to be the go-to-guy #1. If the Kings need to hold onto a lead, I think we see the Gagne-Richards-Brown line out there more often than not. Thankfully, Stoll-Kopitar-Williams are fully capable to finish close games if Gagne-Richards-Brown becomes weakened in a flurry.

Over the course of a game, between the 5s of each period, I believe that teams will combat Kopitar with their top shutdown strategy, while leaving Richards with a better match-up on the Road to work his magic. However, at Staples, Murray can wear down teams with Richards and come with Kopitar to finish.

The Kings are in a favorable position of having Kopitar/Richards/Stoll down the middle that each draw different types of defense.

East Coasters tuning in to see Richards in LA this season may be surprised at just how good Kopitar is.

Yes we do...

First line:

Brad Richardson / Brad Richardson / Brad Richardson

Second:

Brad Richardson / Brad Richardson / Brad Richardson

But I bet you Terry Murray will mess it up by putting Brad Richardson with Brad Richardson instead of Brad Richardson with Brad Richardson. And Kompon will still run the power play and even Brad Richardson can't overcome that.

I hope that Richards will play so well, that we will be forced to say "His line was number one tonight" often enough.

Does it matter? Two first lines, for all intents and purposes Kopi is the #1

no butch was the number two center behind dionne and that was the problem dionne had the triple crowne line and I remember reading stories how valuable butch was and much we could get for him and we got billy harris and dave lewis which were younger good players but freaking butch was like thirty and a point a game center for the last 4-5 years and clutch in the playoffs, scoring that great goal in double OT against boston in 77/78....he went to the islanders in early march and they didn't lose again that regular season and then he had 20 points in the playoffs and they won their first cup, the next year he got the conn smyth and then 3 more cups..... we had no direction then either and would normally trade away our first pick for vets but i think this was maguires biggest mistake

I'm sure alot of us wouldn't want Stoll to be out there either. If it's a face-off in the dzone I can understand, but he is only an average defensive center.
