It is true.

The rumor is that BH was told to hang tight and keep playing/training hard and we will try to find a place for you down the line. It didn't sound to him like that meant this season so he has decided to go overseas and make some good money for a season.

I don't blame him one bit. Given the choice between making $60-$80k or whatever an AHL salary is with a slight chance of getting called up and a guaranteed $250k or $300k (hypothetical salary in Sweden), I'd go to Sweden too...

Too bad about Holloway as I too wanted him penciled in on our 3RW but he's doing what he thinks is best for himself, so, I can't blame him.

Best of luck to Holloway!

I don't think this is a big deal. I really think he'd have gotten a cup of coffee at the very best this year. We still retain his rights (correct me if I'm wrong) and he'll be playing against tougher competition than he would in the AHL.

If he blows up this year and there might be a spot for him next year, he'll come back.

Anyone know how long the deal is?

EDIT: basically what johnjm22 said

The Monarchs only had four 20+ goal scorers last year and now 2 of them are gone....Ouch.

And Elkins who scored 18 goals. That leaves Dwight King and Kozun as the sole goal scoring threat.

Dang. I thought he'd get a call up before Dwight King, and thought he had a good chance to make it this season.

But I understand his reasons. Best of luck, Bud.

I'm stoked for Holloway. Wanted him to make the Kings this year, but I doubt he would go if he thought he had a shot at the roster. I wish I was getting paid >$200,000 to go to Sweden for a year!

Curious how he will do in Sweden. The SEL is a better league than the AHL. If he sucks over there, he would probably suck in the NHL too.

I dont think that will happen and its only 1 year. Bring him back for the 2012-2013.

I'd wager Holloway's salary in SEL exceeds $200,000. $250,000 or more I figure. Unfortunately SEL salaries are not public information. $7-800,000 at most I've heard but Bud won't get that much. I think the average is somewhere little lower than 250

He will make around 400K DL offered him league min, and a average AHL salary. He had a offer that doubled his SEL contract in KHL but chose not to go that route.

Something that hasnt been mentioned here, is maybe he has a out clause in Sweden and his agent is dangling this over DL's head as a negotiation play?

I hate to think that he just screwed himself out of a roster spot this season...

I disagree with you that the SEL is a better league than the AHL. I have been to several SEL games in my life and while I have been to a significantly larger amount of AHL games to me the SEL is about a half a step below the AHL in regards to preparing a player to make it to and in the NHL.

The latest Kings blog on Hockeybuzz says Dwight King is gone too? Anyone know about this?
After reading what DL had to say about Holloway's situation about recall I don't blame Bud for leaving for more money. LA should have called him up at some point in the season and the monetary reward would have probably kept him in Manchester/LA this season.

I can see VV heading overseas if he doesn't see NHL action this season. I know he wants to play in the NHL, but one year at a much higher salary and the fact it burns a year on his FA status makes me think he may take this option.
