Where will Scandella be this season?

Most boring part of the year. The message boards are quiet. So, time for more polls!

Simple question, where will Scandella play next season?

I think he's going to start in Houston. He'll be an injury callup (top-4 guys only, even over our 7th dman) until we either trade a defenseman (probably Zanon at the trade deadline) or a top-4 goes down to long term injury (I'm looking at you Zid).

I'm guessing strong camp, starts in Houston as their #1, and comes up part of the way through the season.

I think there's going to be a lot more competition for spots this year, and Zidlicky's going to have his feet to the fire a bit. Should make for better hockey.

Starts in Houston and eventually if someone hurts or Spurgeon/Stoner cant play well consistently, he got the call first.

I think they call him up to the NHL level at various times during the year. I think he could play up to 15 games this year with the big club depending on the breaks. Spurgeon and Stoner are ahead of him though.

Wild, bottom pairing with more important minutes jumping up the ladder for injuries.
Could end up top four.

I thinking he makes the team and shuffles between the 2nd and 3rd pairings throughout the season.

I just don't see him playing bottom pairing minutes. I think that if he's playing with the Wild, he's on the second pairing (barring some amazing leap to the first pairing).

Too talented with our lack of talent on the blue-line to keep out of our top-4. He's an ideal replacement for Burns alongside Nick Schultz or playing with Mike Lundin, both guys would compliment his game extremely well. Zidlicky, I wouldn't want Scandella beside him if he plays like he did post-injury last year.

i said makes the wild and plays top4, but the option i really wanted wasn't there and that is that he starts in Houston but ends up in the top4 sooner and finishes the year there.

I say he is going to be in the NHL for almost the entire season. With Yeo being the head coach and having a good look at him all year along with Sydor coaching him down there too, there is no way he gets passed up. He looked slick in the prospect games

I'm thinking he plays top-4 all year only because of our lack of top-4 defenseman. Will probably play 2nd pairing, i would guess.

Even if he's on the third pairing, it's not like playing fourth line minutes. You still have the same job, stop the other team and move the puck. You just do it against a little weaker competition (although arguably better than AHL competition). It depends on what he can do on special teams.

I think the only way he makes the team out of camp is in the top 4... I do not see them keeping him around to play bottom pairing minutes. I'm not sure he's going to crack the top 4 out of camp though, so I think he'll end up being a call-up later in the season.

As far as the "bottom pairing minutes" goes, this isn't Detroit or Boston where Lidstrom and Chara are logging 28+ minutes a night. I don't see any potential pairing getting 25 minutes consistently, so even our 3rd pairing will likely see consistent 15+ minutes per night. Difference will lie (as Jarick has said) in the amount of ice time playing specialty situations.

I suppose that's true. However, I assume in Houston he'd be seeing closer to 25 TOI/G. I think we can all agree that post trade deadline he'll likely be seeing top 4 minutes with the Wild.

I'd personally pair him with Lundin, with Schultz and Zidlicky as the top pairing and see how that plays out. Likely give him #2PP time too.

With that said, he's got to come to camp prepared to impress. Because there's a lot of defensemen sort of in the same boat looking to make the team. Any slip up of injury is going to give him an extended stay in Houston.
