I doubt it.

By the end of the year, I want to see this:

Hall-RNH-Eberle (Best Western Line)
Smyth-Horcoff-Hemsky (06 line)
Paajarvi-Lander-Omark (Team Sweden)
Eager-Belanger-Jones (Hard work and determination line)

I think I'm pretty much on par for combos, aside from Gagner not being on the team and RNH and Lander sticking with the club. If the Gagner Bogosian trade goes through, which I doubt it will now, I think these forward combos are pretty realistic.

Smyth Horcoff Hemsky
Hall Gagner Eberle
Paararvi Brule/RNH/Lander Omark
Hartikainen Belanger Jones

Whitney Smid
Gilbert Peckem

Eager Brule/Lander

The 3rd line center job is open for the taking. It could be Belanger, Brule, RNH or Lander.

If RNH makes the team then Lander gets sent down.

pp1

Smyth Gagner Hemsky
Whitney Barker

PP2

Hall RNH/horcoff Omark
Paararvi Gilbert

pk1

belanger jones
whitney smid

Pk2

Personally, I'm not worried about the forward lines. They have plenty of what we need. I think they'll be sorted out and will do well.

I'm more concerned with the defence and goaltending, especially d. We only have two for the top 4 (and one of them, Gilbert, is just a #4). Smid, Peckham, Barker, Petry, Sutton and Chorney are no more than bottom pairing at the moment. We better hope in hell that at least one of them takes a step up this year. The odds of two of those being top 4 are pretty long.

If a trade was made for a top 2, at least than we'd only have to worry about developing one other. Otherwise, it's going to be another year of leaking goals.

On a side note, while looking through the Oilers roster in 2008, we have this listed

24 Steve Staops.....

I hope to see a D core like this by 2014.

(Draft Murray in the top 3 this year)

Whitney-Murray
XXXX-Smid
Klefbom-Marincin
Peckham

XXXX - a good, young, physical defender ala Bogosian acquired via trade. Added in with a forward group like this:

Hall-RNH-Eberle
Paajarvi-Pitlick-Hemsky
Smyth-Lander-Hartakainnen
Eager-Belanger-Jones

But for this year, I expect:

Whitney-Gilbert This is a given to start the year, obvious chemistry.
Peckham-Barker Ehh, I'm not sure about this one
Sutton-Smid This makes sense, a physical pair, a couple of stay at homes.
