Transferring from one External to another

Why must it be so slow!!!?

Not sure why they don't have a separate USB port just for doing this so it's a direct transfer instead of transferring through the CPU. Kind of ridiculous. Transferring 600GB at 20MB/s is going to take some time.

If my math is correct it'll be about 10 hours. BLAH

I dunno, 20mb seems okay. Maximum rate for USB is 60MB/s and I doubt you'll ever get that high on a 2.0.

USB 3.0 would be faster, but not really that much still.
Perhaps you could take the drives out of their enclosures and put them in the system. Would probably be faster on SATA.

You should try disabling your anti-virus software, and you probably should do it through command line next time.

This, otherwise you're stuck with USB speeds.

Send a message via AIM to TehDoak
Remove one drive from the enclosure, install it inside your PC. That should speed it up considerably.

The other option would be to find a PCI USB 2.0 card. You are most likely running this over the same USB controller.

So what is happening is the drive is going:

Read, store in temp, Write

Instead of two controllers, one going:

Read read read read read

and the other going

Write write write write.

This is why I make sure my externals will do e-SATA - or better yet, I've got a SATA docking bay in my PC.

Ah... then you're exactly the right person to understand how I am with files. I've got 5TB of storage in my computer... if I hadn't been saving for the past year to move to Brazil, and thus curbed my file saving, I'd probably be at at least double that. I've got movies, tv shows, music, etc, etc, etc. I could never settle for the USB experience.
