Article on Michael St. Croix

Not sure if anyone posted this here.

Quote:
A playmaker and goal-scorer, he believes a big part of his game involves his vision, which contributes to his impressive offensive abilities.

St. Croix is able to set up plays and get passes through the narrowest of lanes, but most importantly he positions himself perfectly to finish the play. At the same time, his vision grants him the confidence to get fancy with the puck and put on a show.

I think the best thing from this year is Im a better hockey player, offensively and defensively, he said.

Didn't realize that his father played in the NHL.... Rangers really love these kids of former NHL players, huh?

He does need to get bigger, but he's not that small. He's listed at 5'11" and 179 lbs. His brother is 6'3". Maybe he'll have a late growth spurt. Very skilled player. Last year people were talking about him and RNH in the same sentence. He could turn out to be a draft day steal for us.

If St. Croix was as tall as his brother while having the same skill level, he would have gone in the top half of the first round. At a minimum, he'd go where McNeill went because he's at least as skilled and would be as big.

Give him an inch and he's the same height as Brad Richards and Derek Stepan. It's not like we're talking about Jordan Schroeder here.

Don't get me wrong, considering where he was drafted, it's great potential value.

Any time you can get a player who scored over a point per game as a 17 year old, who led the team in scoring per game (second in overall scoring) and you get him in the 4th round, that's a good pick right there.

Mid-first rounders who played in the CHL (Bartschi, McNeill, Noesen) scored about the same. Not saying he's as good, not even close, but though his risk is monumentally higher, I think his upmost potential is just as high. It's just that if Bartschi has a 40-60 chance to become top-6, then St. Croix is maybe 10-90, but I think to get someone in the 4th who has even a minor chance to be a top-6 player is the way to go.

Boom or Bust player. Exactly what you want in your mid-late rounds.

Great article. I like that he talks about the NHL like he's going to be there. He def sounds confident, but not cocky...

Exactly. No reason to deride him because he's tinier, and not taking a shot at you SSM but I know you love your big 2 way guys , and he has higher end offensive potential. Interested to see how he does.

This guy had a thread dedicated to him on the prospects board during the season and got nothing but glowing reviews from those that watch him regularly. He was on my list as a potential 2nd round reach kind of guy for us, so you can imagine how happy I am that they snagged him in the 4th. Not your typical 4th rounder at all imo, really looking forward to watching him develop.

I was skimming through the Oilers board and found a St.Croix thread where Oilers fans wanted to take him at 31 spot. They probably have the most accurate information on St. Croix since many of them attended Oil King games. Apparently he was tied/ahead of #1 pick Nugent-Hopkins up until he got injured. Sure he is a bit small right now, but I think he could end up as a player if he works on his speed.

This is why I opposed the Richards signing (unless the new CBA allows for a higher cap ceiling).

St. Croix is unbelievably talented. He's going to make Richards look like a fool.

It's a shame that we have so many prospects with high potentials that we may not be able to keep.

If not, MSC is at least 3-4 years from making the NHL, if he ever does.
