I dont think this is going to be any kind of blockbuster but a nice, solid addition to the defense. If it was announced without the Botta created anticipation I bet most fans would be estatic with whoever we get, now the way message boards work, people are going to be threatening their Season Tix if we don't get one of the premier defensemen in the LEAGUE.
....thats so true....

Wouldn't it be funny if Garth had someone Botta knows call Botta with a BS rumor just to make him look like an asshat for ripping Garth all afternoon.

The mindset probably is that it can only help...maybe convince a few people who are on the fence. Drum up the buzz. Motivate the troops. Force people to go the extra mile and to reach out to more relatives/friends.

They MUST win by as much as they can. They gotta force the Legislature to respect the "will of the people". Any extra vote is crucial.

They had/have to make a move and there's no better moment to do it...If they're gonna do it, then might as well do it NOW.

It's concrete.

There's no speculation from Botta. "A source said bla bla bla...". It's not even worded cautiously. Pretty straightfoward. There's a considerably bigger deal about to go down and we should really like it.

It's now up to Garth to deliver the goods.

If nothing happens I don't blame Garth, I blame Botta for having terrible sources.

I like Botta, but this seems to be more pie in the sky stuff.
Just because he didn't say "A source said....." doesn't make it anymore true, IMHO.

Short of Crosby or Ovechkin, is there actually a player out there that would excite the non hockey fan? Hell I don't even think trading for Malkin, Chara or Stamkos would excite Peter Plainview who doesn't care about hockey.

It would be pretty sad.

I can knock Garth for only 2 things in his time as GM. 1) not acquiring some better veteran help in JTs first year. 2) the whole Botta issue. It's so damn childish.

Islanders impose a new, no clothing policy to the Ice Girls

The sad thing is that it would probably work to get more people to attend games

Of course it work . I'd attend 20 more games for sure.

The Islanders would probably increase revenue ten fold as well (in dollar bills of course).

Note to self: stupid to quote West Side Story in trade rumor when you write about a league that has teams named the Sharks and Jets
Is he hinting at the fact that either the Jets or Sharks nixed a deal with the Islanders?

Those players who are going to be UFAs are usually traded, if at all, near the dead line. Perhaps this trade is just really really premature.

Lets assume Nino makes the team. Don't we have an extra right winger?

Which right winger might be used in a trade?

If he is the only players I can think of are Vlasic and Bogosian.

Think he means people started jumping to conclusions about the teams involved.

I might be in the minority here but I don't feel they are at that point where they should be trading any prospects and youth away. They are all starting to turn a corner and really take that next step as a team.

Personally if it was me I'd sign Hannan or McCabe and call it a day. No assets lost and you have a good stopgap for De Haan.

By the way if they don't give Comeau a fair deal I'm going to be pissed. He earned a decent contract with his play and has shown an upward trend as a player and should only get better.
