Well he's been quite lucky. His BABIP is .256 and he's stranding more runners than league average and what he's shown over his career so far (84% strand rate). His xFIP is almost 2 full points higher than his ERA. Signs are pointing towards him crashing down soon. Still a good pitcher but he's pitching over his head right now.
the reason he's playing better than he used to is because
a. he's young and still growing
b. he has changed his pitching style since he realized he's better as a contact pitcher than a power pitcher.
Brian Wilson? No reliever should be in the discussion for CY Young, it's a different ball game.
I hate how everyone caters to the Phillies just because they are the Phillies and who they have. If you wanna dive more into it, Hudson and halladay's careers are almost dead on even. However(and maybe true)they talk like Halladay is 1000 times better and you wouldnt realize the comparison without doing the homework on your own.
Yes Jurrjens would likely be the 4th starter in Philly, wins are overrated as its a team stat more so. However...ERA speaks for itself. I think the CY young has a bunch of credentials to it, Wins possibly to a degree, playing on a winning team, maybe walks to strikeouts ratio, ERA among other things. I think Jurrjens is worthy but unfortunatly in a possibly undeserving matter will fall victim to the media because he's not a phillie.
disagree. it just takes quite a bit to make a pitcher an mvp. pedro should have been mvp in 1999 and/or 2000. i could make an argument for verlander.
When you play every 5 days as opposed to every day it's hard to make that case. It's even harder to give just 1 pitcher the credit to a teams success. They had to be decent the other 4 days for that 5th guys work to even matter.
