I actually think both guys stand a decent chance of getting picked up this time.

Really surprising, because I don't see any of this alleged defensive depth that makes White suddenly expendable -- especially not at the cost of a cap hit penalty for two years.
What's even better is our supposed depth at RW. wtf

How can they buy players out at this time? I thought Parise was settled outside of arbitration, thus not giving the Devils the right to buy players out now.

To all you CBA geeks, what am I missing?

Isn't Urbom in there somewhere, as well?

Colin White is exactly the defenseman Garth has been pimping since this entire "We need a top 4 D to play with Streit" escapade.

He might wait until some more arbitration awards start causing cap casualties, but if I know Garth... White is an ideal target.

If Garth wanted him, why not just have Lou drop him into the Rolston for Hunter trade?

If I remember correctly, it's not having an arbitration hearing, it's having a hearing scheduled. So, because the Devils had an arbitration scheduled for Parise this week, even though they signed him negating the hearing, they still get a buy-out window for the period where the arbitration would have taken place.

Whoa, I am legitimately shocked White was waived by the Devils. I was going to ask what you NJ fans thought of this, then I read the rest of the thread...

...needless to say, I assume many of you are quite disappointed.

Maybe he wants a shot at signing him for cheaper?

Wow, people are really flipping out about losing White

He's far from irreplaceable folks, he had clearly lost a step since his eye injury (unfortunate, but true).

I wouldn't say the Devils management is 'throwing in the towel'

Don't forget the Devils have to write an $80 million check on September 1st

I thought *thought* it was that on top of only signing for 1 year. if he signed for 2+ I don't think the buyout window would reopen.

Possibly making room for Scott Hannan?

When does Lou Lamoriello start getting top billing as a terrible GM? The guy hires a coach that has never made the playoffs. He has 2 buyouts already on the books and now he's looking to add two more...wtf.

I didn't think Colin White was that bad. Isles should really consider picking him up or signing him after the buyout. Hunter on the other hand is trash.

His coaching signing was hailed as a triumph, almost unanimously.

Colin White won't make it to being bought out. Hopefully he makes it all the way down to the Caps though Would make Erskine expendable.

No, you just need 2 or more arbitration cases. It doesn't matter how they are settled. Once the last case is settled, you get the 2nd buyout window.

Yes, he will. Lou's already announced he'll be bought out; a new team could probably resign him for less than his current 3m contract.

Horrible decision, even for all his faults, I still liked White.

Good to see Lou is treating an 11 year Devil veteran with such respect, makes me sick.

That's crazy talk. Colin White isn't anywhere near the d-man he was a few years ago. He's been exposed when his minutes have gone up, and his play has been steadily declining. At this point, I would much MUCH rather have Erskine on my line-up than Colin White straight up. Let alone having to pay twice as much in salary for white, space the Caps don't have.

WOW. Was not expecting that at all.

I could see Montreal, NYI and Columbus showing some interest in White if he clears waivers and becomes a UFA.

If Vancouver could find a taker for Ballard, they could be interested as well.

Hunter may find a home somewhere as well, but it may be through a camp invite or wait until someone gets a few injuries a month or two into the season.

Yes, but the team that passes up on him may now have competition to sign him. I thikn for at least one team, the guarantee at getting him for 3mill will outweight the chance to make an offer to him and lose out at say 2.25M.

Remember, White had a NTC, and may not have wanted to waive it to be a rental for just one more year.

Wow. Watch more Devils games.

He was our best defenseman last year. Very good shutdown defenseman, doesn't bring much offense though.
