Im happy to have a bit of stability in the backup position, gives price someone to work with and be friends with as well much like auld but more stable, and he can at least fill in in case of injuries

Nice to see that he is already on the ice, he wasn't a bad goalie in Colorado, hopefully he gets some confidence and we can rest Price a but more not being worried when Budaj is in net

I'm already anticipating that Budaj will have some great games for the Canadiens, and immediately after one of those games, some local scribes will anoint him the new Jaroslav Halak.

By the way, compared to other teams, our official website is absolutely terrible.

Nice to see Budaj, Cole, Darche and other players hitting the ice in Brossard before September.

We are six weeks away from training camp!!!

Budaj is a good back-up, but back-up at best, there were batter options out there to back-up Carey and take some of the load off of him, that Darche goal looked pretty soft...

I think he's a terrible starter. Backup is okay for sure, but I still won't be too comfortable with him in goal. Honestly I think it's a wash between him and Auld.

I didn't really understand the hate that this signing received.

While it's clear to pretty much everyone that Budaj is NOT a starting goaltender in the NHL, he's definitely a more than capable backup.

I see it as an huge upgrade also, Auld playing more than 10-15 games would be scary. I know Budaj stats don't look great, but remember he played on a horrible team with a bad defense. Look at how good Craig Anderson looked on the Sens after the trade from the Avs. Anyhow, I'm more comfortable with Budaj playing roughly 20 games as opposed to Auld playing 20.

I have good news for both of you. He will be the back-up, not the starter.

Budaj's career S% is .901, with a GAA of 2.83, could be because of some awful Avalanche teams, but he's definatley been below average.

I know, it's just there were better options for a back-up goaltender, I just don't feel very confident that he'll be able to take any more load off of Carey that Auld did.

At least Carey will still know the starting position belongs to him

Let's be fair to the poor guy that hasn't played a game yet for the Habs

Who predicted that Auld was going to finish 6-2 in the little action he faced last year? Who's to say Budaj won't do as good, and maybe for a few more games, given that the coaches might be inclined to give a few more days off to our #1?

Any chance we know who the 3 Habs guys who are shooting on him are?

From the Darche video, you already have Darche....the last guy on the vid with the hair and the "smooth" skating...., has to be Whitey. So who knows the 3rd?

Think is, I would have given you a choice of 10 goalies...and NOBODY would have come up with Auld. The guy who has played for 75 teams in the last decade. And honestly, my comment was not THAT far behind. Auld did not have the confidence to play more games than he did making Price always in the net. And seems to me that the Budaj acquisition is exactly in response to that. Yet, I laughed at the Auld acquisition, I don't think the Budaj one is THAT bad. Obviously not. But there were better candidates.

I'm just saying that people already writing it off as a bad signing need to calm down. There was so much doom and gloom when we signed auld, and he finished the year with above average stats for a backup, I would think.

agree

i think have to wait tbefore they write him off
just looking at his numbers don't say the whole story just look at the team he was playing for

Understand. But people have to based themselves with what they know and what they hear from people who has seen him play. And nobody is actually sad he's gone.

I guess that it is that way for every team. Or almost every team. But the thought that a Price injury means a Budaj-Lawson tandem makes me cringe everytime I think about it....see I just did again....So I try NOT to think about it...

Budaj might do an adequate job. Like Auld did. Though, that's the scary part. Statswise, Auld did a really good job. Yet, they didn't think of bringing him back. Don't believe they thought of giving him more games either. So statswise, Budaj might not even be as good...Anyway, I am with the opinion, as far as Budaj is concerned, that we will give him some time and we will see. Just happen to believe that Garon would have been much better. But unless Price gets hurt, it won't be a problem.

the reasoning PGi believe was he wanted a young goalie(under 30) and he wanted Price to play less games

i wanted a guy that could be a in net if needed if needed and was a little older

names that went to me were garon and giguere

He didn't really have much of a defense/ team in front of him either.
