Yeah that combined with something similar coming from a site you can't even cite on these boards pretty much means it is a done deal...

I don't believe we will be hearing from Dash anytime soon.

Word on twitter is that he accepted a job as the new blogger at some fancy hockey rumor website, www.hockeybuzz.com (e9'er)

It's also the day of the Nassau County Coliseum referendum vote.

That should be interesting. Anyone know what the chances of success are on that one? I guess I'll find out soon enough...

Islanders fans seem desperately optimistic, if that makes any sense. If you know anyone in Nassau County, get the word out (to vote yes)! I'll be damned if one of the most storied franchises in the NHL has to move off the Island and I didn't do what I could (which I think is nothing, since I don't think I actually know anyone who lives in Nassau County).

I've read not so promising things as of an hour ago. That said, I also read the Billionaire owner of the Brooklyn / NJ Nets (Russian, Mikhail Prokorov) wants to bring the Islanders to his new arena in Brooklyn.

Would be interesting, wonder how Jay-Z would feel about that.

On the bright side, people voting in the morning generally means that they're not working in the morning. In large, they're retired, work part time, or unemployed. Or in other words, on a fixed income. They'll usually vote against raising their taxes, particularly when it doesn't have any immediate cost reduction for them.

The people with disposable incomes or in unions will start turning up in the afternoon. Holding out hope for a bigger "yes" vote then.

Yeah a lot of people are saying that yes votes will be coming in later. They're also talking about extending the deadline to 10:00 PM from 9:00 PM. I'll certainly be following closely.

$3M cap hit for a guy who'd battle to be our #6 at best? No thanks.

I'd be plenty happy if he took Schultz's minutes... but yeah, on second thought, I guess the Caps would have to wait to see if he could be signed cheap after clearing waivers. Maybe I haven't seen enough recent stuff but I think he's still better than Schultz or Erskine.

I'd take him if he came cheap post-buyout, but who knows what the market will be for him.

And this makes me wonder if the Devils will go after Hannan now. Depends on his price I suppose. Strange market at this point.

Possible but I think they're still pretty well set. They have something of a logjam 5-7/8 between the potential return of Salvador and a number of younger d-men that are no longer waiver-exempt.

I'd take him over Schultz post-buyout on the cheap but...dream on.

After buyout, I'm sure there'd be someone else who'd give him more money than we could/should. Specifically a team like Montreal or NYI.

I'm not convinced any remaining teams are willing to spend money on defensemen right now, mainly because Hannan is still out there (and better than White, no?). Maybe it's because people are waiting for arbitration, but I think there's a fair chance someone good will be up for grabs for a bargain deal. And the Caps are obviously making a Cup run, which should be an excellent selling point for a veteran on a one-year bargain deal. Even old guys like to win.

White makes Schultz look mobile, and Semin look disciplined.

While Hannan certainly doesn't shy away from contact and is a better overall package than White, White fills the need for a "physical defenseman" more than Hannan does. That's a pretty big need for Montreal, and the Islanders are supposedly still seeking a defenseman. I think White would be willing to wait for arbitration to sort itself out before signing, and those (or other) teams might be willing to throw him more than the pittance we could give him based on his skillset.

It's actually 1.5M on waivers

He'd be a 5/6 but he's better than Schultz and Erskine
