John Bonham and Keith Moon are better

Totally disagree. I'd take Peart any day.

Bonham and Moon are up there, but it's definitely one of those three.

There are more than a few that I take over Bonham and Moon. Can't say the same for Peart. There may be others that are as good and that I might like better but no one is heads and shoulders better than him.

I don't know, I can't think of anyone I like more than those three for "best drummer of all time."

Who would you take over them?

Bonham didn't play on a 100 piece drumset (exaggeration). Watch "Moby Dick live" on youtube. look what he can do on that little drumset. And his rhythm in his songs are amazing. Peart is great, but nothing like Bonham.

And TBH, I can't stand the band "Rush" itself. I just can't stand his voice, especially in "Tom Sawyer". The only song I like is "YYZ" only because you don't here his voice.

Bill Bruford, Carl Palmer, Cozy Powell, Simon Phillips, Ian Paice. Any one of them over Bonham or Moon. Not over Peart.

I'd take Ginger Baker before any of the drummers you guys are talking about. I'd say Mike Portnoy belongs in the conversation, too.

Portnoy is great. DT is one of the most under appreciated bands despite their talent.

I disagree about Baker though. Very good drummer, but not near these guys.

Technically speaking, I'd put Baker well ahead of Moon, who put on a much flashier show without quite as much technical ability as someone like Baker. If you listen to any of Baker's playing on jazz tracks, you'll hear the technique that Moon is missing.

I would have to vehemently disagree with him not being put at least in the top 5, if not the top 3.

Baker, Bonham, and Peart would be my picks for top 3, with virtually no difference in overall quality between them. I'd say Moon and Portnoy are the guys I'd go with next, just a tick below the first 3.

Technically a lot of guys are better than Moon. But in any ranking I personally put Moon a few spots above Baker every time.

Top 5, possibly depending on how i'm feeling that day, but my top 3 is always Bonham, Moon and Peart.

Ive been a drummer for about 15 years now, maybe 16 not really sure. Portnoy has been my drum idol for more than a decade and DT being my favourite bands ever. That said, NP is an amazing drummer and def up there on the greatest drummer chart. So does Portnoy, and Carter Beauford (hes incredibly technical) and Derek Roddy. To say whos the greatest of all time though, its so hard to pick one because they all have their styles and with the way music has evolved drummers (and other musicians) are getting better and better.

My list however (if I was forced to make one)
Peart
Portnoy
Bozzio
Roddy

Peart couldn't handle the challenge of doing as good as Bonham on a 5 piece drumset.

Music debates are always fun. It's not like you have stats or any tangible results like you do with sports. It's 100% opinion.

I prefer Peart to Bonham, but it's not like Peart has a lower ERA. [I bet he would though ]

Peart's ERA is actually deflated because of his drumset. Their xFIP's are almost identical .
