It still hasnt sunk in that Brad Richards is a ranger. Just looking at the most recent capgeek projection on this page and seeing his name as the number one center is something else. I'll be the first to admit, I was very hesitant about bringing him in here, especially at the deadline where it was rumored we'd have to give up AA+ for a guy who we could sign as a UFA. I was still hesitant to hand a guy on the wrong side of 30 that kind of money, but he can play. He's a special player and if he stays healthy we could be in for a great ride this year with him and gaborik. Not to mention a sophomore year for Stepan and McD, and hopefully the rookie year for Erixon.

To answer someone elses question a couple post above mine about the cap....

using the latest capgeek projection on this page by Vitto and factoring in Eminger's $800K....assuming Callahan gets $4.4 million....we'd have roughly:

$1.239 million in cap space. Now if you deal EC for a draft pick you're looking at $2.1 million roughly. That's a good starting point amount for the deadline. We dont need to carry 13 forwards with $2.1 million in space. If we need someone we could just call up Weise or hopefully Hagelin.

pretty sure that 'remaining cap space' you are listing is short a dman...add del zotto as the final dman and the remaining space is like 200k before getting rid of the 14th forward

I was using vitto's example which had 7 defensemen listed.

From what I have, we have $4,810,000 ($7,110,328 if you don't want to count Callahan's QO).

well we should all know in a day or so what the total cap space will be with Cally signing one way or another

Moving EC may happen but it really doesnt save space as they will carry a spare regardless and at most only a few hundred K less

Zuke I think starts in the minors for sure, Hagelin will not be a spare Kolarik is familiar with Hagelin from Michigan so I bet they are on the same line

that leaves Weise, Newbury, Mitchell, Thurresson as potential spare/ call ups.

Some will say Weise should still be down for playing time and no I don't see Avery as a spare.

So with the Callahan deal done, we have $2,835,328 in summer cap space.

not worried, no buyout or deals needed.

this was posted before.

Add 50 K to Eminger but subtract 130 K or so for Cally and they are still under using this lineup. Assuming Zuke is the oddman out, he has options and can be called up when needed. I could care less if EC is dealt but I see how he does make alot of sense as a spare under a million on the cap. Moving him does'nt really save much as a guy that would replace him does not make much less. Also Assuming Vtank is sent down, he has options and if he makes the team great , one of DZ/Erixon is down at a higher cap hit

all in all they have the space to do what they want.

I won't be apposed to a deal for a top LW involving Wolski, Zuke, EC, Vtank but I see that more at the deadline and of course it likely take a pick for a real good player.

Richards was the end of it as far as big prices UFAs we can sign in this mini-era.

If the NYR will want to keep all of their progressing kids as they come into new contracts (Anisimov, Stepan, McDonagh will all be RFA in 2 years, with Girardi, Callahan, Dubi and co still with time left) they will need to show more restraint on the buyers market.

Richards, Gabby, Lundqvist we can afford to have. But with Staal, Girardi, and now others coming into their 4 mil contracts, we do no want to end up in a position where we have to choose between successful kids.

And lets be frank. Richards fell into our laps. He wanted to play here, and we got lucky. It'd be presumptuous to assume we could grab any other FA we wanted, just because we had cap space.

Having too many GOOD players. Not a bad problem to have. When was the last time that happened with this team???

He probably thought he could get a better one and when he found out he couldn't, came running back here with his tail between his legs.

Probably got more AHL money than in the QO sized deal.

Johnson received $85,000 AHL money. $22,500 increase from last season. He is still waiver exempt. The other players received $105,000 AHL to avoid needing to clear re-entry waivers because they were not waiver exempt. Johnson needs another pro year to become waiver eligible or play 54 NHL games this season.

Looks like Pashin has signed.

Quote:
Slava Fetisov (CSKA president) is upset with Mikhail Pashnin's signing w/ #NYRangers. Says Pashnin will wind up in the AHL, should've stayed
https://twitter.com/#!/SlavaMalamud/...26399152173056

Pashnin is SPC #49. Rangers have one more SPC.

Gives the Rangers 17 SPCs on D

1-Staal
2-Girardi
3-McDonagh
4-Sauer
5-Erixon
6-MDZ
7-Eminger
8-Redden
9-Valentenko
10-Kundratek
11-Parlett
12-Niemi
13-Baldwin
14-Klassen
15-Bickel
16-Pashnin

17-McIlrath(Slide when returned to WHL. Will not count against 50 SPC limit)

JT Miller and Christian Thomas will not count against the 50 SPC limit when they are returned to their OHL teams. They count right now.

to update Pashin back in Russia, oh well...Deveaux, Bell to CT on 2way deals

Also with our lines poll I have a feeling the board is going to have Avery and Zuccarello on the team which I beleive is impossible due to the cap

can someone work that up. Lets assume Zuke is on the 3rd line like voted for and Avery is the spare. assume EC is gone

Perhaps Erixon down and DZ / Vtank 3rd pair makes it fit?

You can switch MZA (or Avery) with Christ if you like (doubt it but who really knows) and you have another 800,000 (at least) in cap space.
MDZ could take Valentenkos spot too I guess - adding another $237.000.
A lot of Zuccarellos bonuse$ are unattainable too I believe...

We have a team!

thanks, I guess it's doable but real tight. Also means EC is waived which would not be a shock

Zuke has to have a great camp to make it in my opinion. I will pull for him to do it but since he has an option I see them playing Avery in the top 12 and EC spares

I guess we can say it`s been a litle bad management after all?
Just as an examle lets say Zucc,Del Zotto and T Erixon wind up the camp, and because of that tight cap space, they cant skate there best team?

Somebody are overpayd I guess

Nobody's vastly overpaid except Drury. It's a side effect of Drury's cap hit still on the books.
