Larsson signs an ELC without any performance bonuses. As a result, he, as a 4th overall pick, will have a lower cap hit than JC (11th), Fowler (12th), Gormley (13th), Hishon (17th), and Watson (18th) from last year. Pretty strange.

DeBoer didn't have to wait long to get another shot in the NHL. I think he's a pretty good choice for New Jersey. Can he break the mold and survive Lou looming over his shoulder?

I think a reasonable player/agent would have no problem forgoing the $2 million B bonuses because they truly are so difficult to earn. Although, Larsson is the type of prospect that has the ability to hit them. I think it's rare for a player to hit it all 3 years of a contract. In most cases, they are never earned, and they just serve as a major cap inflator which is an issue when bonuses count 100% against the cap regardless of being earned (like this season). IMO, it's admirable Larsson would not take this bonus and screw up the Devils cap situation.

The shocking part of the contract to me is the lack of A bonuses. Those are relatively easy to earn, especially for a player of Larsson's caliber. I can't think of an example of a Top5 pick not getting the max A bonus in their contract. He basically just walked away from nearly $2.55 million in realistic bonuses over 3 years. My only guess is NJ told him you're not making the NHL next season with a $1.775 million cap hit.

An example of A bonues for the Dallas Stars, Scott Glennie was given 75% of the A bonus in year 1, 88% in year 2, and 100% in year 3.

Jack Campbell was given about 70% of the A bonus each year.

Probably. The Devils just seem to have a way of making things work. I swear it's almost like Lou has some sort of Jim Jones type control over his minions.

I'm not really too fond of them, I guess I've spent too much time staring at the old logos, these new ones are pretty different.

A different concept I like to replace the left image (except the boring font):

^ That wouldn't reproduce well at small sizes. The detail on the jets would get confusing.

Very nice overall. I love that the primary has no text of any kind. It will become iconic in short order. It's an actual picture of a jet so it's leaps and bounds ahead of the old Winnipeg marks. Smooth the way it's used as the needle of a compass as well. Nothing too surprising though since the description had been leaked for a while. The script is both modern and retro at the same time, playful yet serious. The secondary is boring and features the maple leaf too prominently along with the worst hockey logo cliche of all time, crossed sticks. Hopefully it will be kept to a minimum.

Colin White, he of the 11 year career with the Devils and one of the best shutdown guys in the league over the past several seasons, was unceremoniously waived today. Alrighty.

Nothing until 2015. They have a lease that Wang said he would not attempt to break. Someone mentioned they might try and get Queens to build an arena for them. Otherwise, they're likely moving after the lease expires it seems.

Honestly... if anyone's familiar with that area, it's just a really strange place to have a major league sports team. You have to think there are better options out there, including locally in Queens. Tough to get an arena built in this economic climate.

And the Sharks get Colin White, of course. Their moves this offseason have been downright genius. If we were actually planning on competing I'd be concerned, but...

I really like the potential proposed rule that a team going offside can't make a line change. It's always seemed like a very minor drawback to me. You're 50% less likely to have possession, but you don't lose territory. And how many times are these offsides the result of scrub players making stupid decisions? This will force them to stay out there and deal with the consequences. The icing version of this rule has worked out well, why not build on it.

I agree and disagree. I think it would be great to hold them accountable BUT I'd hate for the NHL to turn into the new NBA and adopt way too many rules.

Trying to explain the rules in hockey to newcomers now is insane enough as it is.

I want the trapezoids gone.

I agree with removing the trapezoid and keeping things simple. But with offside the play already has come to a stop. Would being unaware that one team can't change their lines really effect how a new viewer understands the situation? That's the kind of thing they could learn later and not miss much.
