Keep an eye on Akeson. He has been working hard with Giroux and Tony Greco this year. I bet he surprises some people. He did league the OHL in points and assists last year.
I went with Wellwood, he was pretty good in his short stint last season.
I concur. I think that Wellwood looked good playing short term for the Flyers and that he still has some upside to him that he could play on almost any line. Still wide open though with the list.
Wellwood but not by much. he has a lot of work to do imo. he really needs to bulk up (at 5'11" 179lbs I think he's a little too small). He was a minus 15 and only put up 28 pts last season. I know the whole team struggled but testwuide was a plus 12 w/ 39pts and is 6'3" 210lbs so I can see him in the NHL before wellwood. In the end i voted wellwood because he's 3 yrs younger.
"Our prospect pool sucks guys. Our team is doomed."
Gustafsson is not that bad, and it could be a LOT worse.
You realize that as an AHL rookie he was 8th in scoring among defensemen on a team that was second to last in scoring?
He scored 7 more points this year than Wade Redden in 2 more games.
If you're looking for an offensive defensemen without expecting much defensively, you can do a hell of a lot worse.
Quit making ridiculous statements and putting words in my mouth. At no point did I say our team was doomed because they aren't. Don't assume that I meant that by saying our prospect pool is garbage after the first two players. I was only stating a mere fact, nothing more.

You were stating mere opinion.
We have a number of role players. Just because they don't have the potential to be NHL superstars does not mean they are garbage.
We have some solid complimentary pieces in our prospect pool as well as some long shots with extremely high potential.
Our prospect pool was "garbage" before because it had no top end talent to balance it out. We now have that in spades thanks to Schenn and Couturier. (Giroux, JVR, Voracek, Simmonds, Nodl, and Bobrovsky are all young enough to be prospects as well.)

Is Sestito considered a prospect still? I think he is the only prospect with a goal in the NHL.
Wellwood gets a lot of love on these boards but what does he bring that is any different or any better then what you get from Nodl, Holmstrom or even Kalinski? He is fast but isn't a finisher or a great play maker.
If Sestito is still a prospect I would put him above Wellwood. Either way, I think Read or Testwuide have a better chance of making the big club with the current make up of the squad.

Sestito is still technically a prospect per HF.
This will be his last season as a prospect though. This year he will either turn 24 or have completed 65 NHL games. So he will either be removed from the pool or will have graduated.
I feel a lot better about the amount of prospects that could actually make the roster in the next couple years. I can count 7 or 8 possibilities , maybe not this year but soon. It has'nt been like that for awhile. I love having 2 studs at the top of the prospect list. My pick for #4 prospect would be Read.
This I found really tough. It boiled down to the argument of who I think is a lock to make the NHL vs who i think could have the biggest impact. Ended up taking Ranford
Guys that could be very, very good NHL players.
Akeson
Ranford
Read
Laurdison
Over guys who i think are locks to make the NHL at some points
I went with Holmstrom but really from here on I'm good with a lot of guys on that list. I think from this point forward it will depend from what direction the voter is coming from ie: NHL ready, most likely to impact, most raw potential and so on.
If Sesito counts I say add him. If not I say add Kalinsky. If he also doesn't count I say add Parks.

where would you put cousins in that? he could certainly be an impact player with his unbelievable speed and pretty nifty hands to boot.
