Just Wondering about the NVMC

Say the Islanders do go off to Brooklyn or wherever in 2015. I wonder if the Rangers could take over the building and move the Whale to Long Island? Not sure how it works but having your farm team even closer to NYC can't hurt.

And I'm sure the attendance won't be any worse then what it is in Hartford right now, probably even better.

Just a thought.

That would be like driving a salt truck over the bodies of Islanders fans

As bad as I feel for actual Islanders fans that would be pretty funny.

while it would suck for Islander fans, it would be a lot worse for Nassau county to have to shut down the Coliseum.

besides, the place would STILL need to be renovated, which wouldn't happen for a AHL team.

So what happens next now that the residents voted down the plan? Can the LI government still push it through...or is it dead?

Terrible idea...

Hartford fans deserve their team. And moving ANY team INTO that building would be like cruel and unusual punishment.

I think it would be great for Nassau County to have ANY AHL team there.

Their current AHL team does pretty good numbers compared to other AHL teams!

Who is to say they would lose it? Another NHL team can take over. Or move the ECHL team there, this way both farm teams are close to home.

I'm really not trying to be insensitive to Islander fans, but if the building is there, why not use it? MSG and Dolan have the money to fix it up, and then they could have another building for concerts and other events to compete with Prudential and Barclays.

Well, its been apparent that that area and arena can accommodate an AHL level team for some time now, so yeah I guess it could work.
A lot of things would have to fall into place, though.

Yep, three AHL players in the top 30 NHL goal scorers from last season when you had none.

Okay we understand you lost your arena, I feel bad. But you don't see me going to your board and crying whenever you make fun of our franchise.

You would think with those promising young players more people would want to go see them
play.. I think the whale would get better attendance than the isles did, honestly... If you guys can get the word out and gather enough fans to consistently attend games your team will not go anywhere. You have three years to unite and get better attendance

bring on the Whale!

I would go to every game if I can see our prospects. I enjoy prospects JUST AS MUCH as I enjoy the Rangers... Well, actually not. I never went to a prospect's game to be totally honest. But I would BECOME one hell'ov'a'fan!

Tavares will be the Shane Doan of KC. He will have a nice long tenure for the team and put together a respectable career, and will always be the trivia question answer to "the last current roster player to have played on Long Island"

NOOOOO!!!!! I live just outside Hartford and can be at a WhalePack game within 15 mins. Don't take that from me... They're only 2 hours from NY. That's not too far. Put the ECHL team in Long Island, not my WhalePack.

Hartford is only 1 1/2 hours away VIA Train versus like 45 min from the Colosseum. I wouldn't mind the move though. Get's em closer to our fan base and let's more Ranger fans go out and watch them play. Plus, the attendance at the exell(sp?) center is a joke. I've been to like 5 games and theres maybe 100 people at each one.

If they move, which I hope they won't, I hope it will be to Quebec City than to Kansas. Nobody cares about hockey in Kansas, and Quebec loves its hockey.

That said, I would love to have a Ranger farm team somewhere closeby. I would love it in the NBA arena in downtown Brooklyn.

This. Except I like the Whale where they are. Hartford is close enough for it to not be a problem.
