How about Martin Lefebvre?

Martin Lefebvre is a defenseman invited to the Team Canada U-20 camp.

He's 19 years old, 5'11", 180 lbs and plays for Quebec in the QMJHL.

He's undrafted, I don't know why (I wasn't a fly on 30 draft team tables last June).

Last year, in 65 games, he had 10 goals & 45 assists with a +/- of + 16. In the playoffs, in 14 games, he had one goal and nine assists. He doesn't seem to be overly physical (20 pim in the regular season and eight pim in the playoffs - though pim's don't necessarily equal lack of physical play.)

I don't know if he was invited to any NHL prospects camps but, as a defenseman who was a player of the week one time in the Q and has been invited to the Canadian U-20 WJC camp, he would seem to be one to look at.

Points against him might be the obvious weight/size thing but these are no longer the Berlin Walls they used to be.

Anybody have fact-based opinions or ideas about this kid?

Sure. Invite him to camp. Nothing to lose, but it's nothing I'd get excited over. We've got quite a few of those already. I do like that his +/- is positive despite the points.

He's already invited to St-Louis Blues camp...

Was not worth a pick as far as I'm concerned....but can't believe we didn't invite him. Really don't get how non-imaginative our development crew is getting as far as the development camps. Especially seeing how the last one went....Though Aaron Dell was great to see and I was surprised to see him, I have to admit. But Lefebvre was a gimme.

Matt Petgrave is another undrafted D invited to the WJ camp. Anyone know the story on him?

I like Petgrave. He can be very effective as he likes to step up on guys coming across the blueline and he has decent size and good wheels. He has the package that works well in international play.

Some say he has a tendency to get out of position at times and tries to make the odd play that is ill-advised, but he normally plays with a very calm control that is very trustworthy. He's a presence almost every shift.

I still have to think he's a real long-shot for the U-20s though.

It's possible the Habs have a set limit on the number of Lefebvre's they want in the organization.

Since we don't have anyone under AHL contract yet and are a little light on D for the Dogs, I got to think they will invite a few more besides McFadden.
