i could see him going somewhere at the deadline then re-signing with Phx in the summer to retire

Every one of those players would be available if a GM were willing to overpay, but who wants to overpay? However it must be the dog days of summer to be discussing topics this deep into the hypothetical.

I'm enjoying the fact that people are annoyed with the OP for starting a thread called "Speculation: Staal - Stafford - Blum" because they think that a thread called "Speculation" containing those three names is supposed to have any basis in reality.

Didn't Weight or Tzachuk do that? Both maybe?

Anyways, I thought they added a clause in the new CBA preventing players from returning to their former teams just months after being traded from them.

If we're going to go after someone from Calgary, my vote is David Moss. Makes just over a million, scored 20 goals, hard worker, can move up and down the lineup, plus he's from Livonia, Michigan

"Speculation" implies there is some sort of factual basis or at least logical foundation for something to occur.

If the Canucks get Doan, I think it would likely just be for a playoff rental... It would be fantastic to get Doan, and have him sign long term, but my impression is that he wants to be a life-long Coyote (as long as they're in Arizona)...

Rather than "leaving" the team, I could see Doan agreeing to go to a Stanley Cup contender for a few months (chance to get a cup), get assets for the Coyotes franchise, and then re-signing with Coyotes a few months later... Kind of like a little holiday...

If the asking price is Schneider +, as much as I like Doan, I don't think I do that deal... unless pretty confident he can be re-signed...

I meant that he'd walk from whatever team he was traded to. He'd walk back to Phoenix.

I'd rather have Jackman.

Plausible, assuming Phoenix doesn't make the playoffs. But with Bryz gone I guess those odds go up pretty significantly.

Weber for Kesler

If Nashville offered Weber for Kesler would you take it?

Me, I take that deal in a second.

Value-wise, yes. But organization-wize, no. Leaves a bigger hole in our offense than we do with our defense now without Weber.

No chance. Scoring depth hurt us more than anything in the playoffs. Without Kesler, we don't have second line. Plus, Kesler at 5M is at least comparable value to Weber at 7.5M, and with Weber being 2 years removed from UFA you can bet that 7.5M number will move up on his next contract (unless it's arbitration again, in which case you lose him in 2 years).

If it were straight up and independent of contracts, Weber is clearly the more valuable player (though for our particular circumstances maybe not so much). Given contracts, UFA status, etc, there's no way I'd do it unless we had other moves lined up to both resign Weber long term for a reasonable price and shore up the 2nd line by bringing someone else in.

#1 D for a #1 C.

Its an even trade and results in essentially no upgrade for us, and IMO the 40ish goals a year is worth more from a centre man.

Nope. Leaves us with as big a hole to fill elsewhere.

Wait it out. Go after Suter. If that fails, try trading for Weber when he has less value as he'll be only 1 year away from UFA status then. Failing that, wait 'til next UFA season and go after him then.

I disagree. Kesler, minus the Nashville series, was a less then steller in the playoffs. Add in the bad hip (there is no guarentee he is ever the same again)...

If you can get the best D-Man in the league straight up, I think you take it and then trade Cory S to shore up the 2nd line.

I say no. Kesler is almost untouchable IMO.
