Michael Nylander

This was probably done before, not sure about recently.

What is his value as a UFA on July 1st?

He just had successful spinal fusion surgery in October, so he will be ready for action come September 2011.

Looks like he was owning the AHL, and he used to be a really solid NHLer.

Could he be a 3rd line C or winger?

I honestly doubt he'll get a contract without having to take a PTO first. He could be a gem that could work out for a team and could turn into a big bargain if they sign him for cheap, which is most likely what he'll have to do, as he's been out of the league for so long.

Maybe he can be like a Manny Malhotra in San Jose. A guy having to earn a contract on a tryout but a guy who proves real valuable if he sparks on the right team.

His ever so slow game certainly worked for Jagr.

And he was money in shoot outs.

Probably past it, though.

He'd do great, it's just a matter of opportunity.

His value? I'd say something north of a ham sandwich.

If he gets another NHL job, it's going to be after attending someone's camp and/or playing in Europe first. Coming off an injury that severe after being exiled by the Capitals certainly doesn't help his value. Even at this point, he'd be a great footsoldier if fully healthy, but I doubt he's healthy enough to be an effective player at the highest level of competition. Feel sorry for him, it certainly went south quickly.

I can see being an invite to the Coyotes camp, ala Wellwood last year. There'd certainly be a spot for him to compete for.

They guy has like 5 kids, why would you even take the risk with an injury like that. Has anyone ever seen the Keith Primeau interview when he talks about his PCS and life after hockey? It's not worth risking being a quadriplegia.
