Wow... I guess it does not take much to "piss you off".

I just thought if Vancouver could get a younger player, one will less damage and mileage, one who is the best in the game at his position for a player just coming off hip surgery...

Well, I guess I was wrong.

How do you propose winning the cup without Kesler? We have no forwards capable of winning battles up front outside of him and to a lesser extent burrows and Higgins

No, Kesler is the heart and soul of this team by a country mile.

Depends on how Cody can develop

Although he's a different type of center, if he can eventually score 30+ goals, he's the ideal #2 center

So Hell ya if CH can step up

But it may take more that Kesler

I just did not see Kesler do much in the playoff - minus the Nashville series. I also see a player with a ton of bumps and bruises, coming off hip surgery...

I agree, it leaves a hole, but if you can get a younger player, higher ranked at his position for Kesler, I take it and then try and fill the 2nd line by trading Cory S and future draft picks.

Like I said, 2 years from now we can look back and I bet Weber is by far the better player over that time.

Having said that, everyone disagrees with me so maybe I am wrong.

It was just a thought.

I'm gonna go with the fact Gillis isn't the type to pull a 'Jeff Carter' on Ryan Kesler by trading him after he signed a big contract, and before his movement clause kicks in.

Reality aside, I still don't do it...we're already wondering if our offense is good enough, and youngish power centres don't exactly grow on trees.

Would you trade your left arm for your right arm?

What would be purpose of trade? We need more help up front than on the blueline at the moment.

Weber is a great player, but I wouldn't trade Kesler for him. It would make our defence stronger, but our 2nd line would become even weaker. A lot of Canucks fans are hoping for Kesler to get a better winger and trading him doesn't help. Also, Kesler means a lot to the team and the Canucks fans, so I don't see him going anywhere.

i agree with the comments that the defensive gain does not out weigh the impact it would have on our offense to be a good trade. We'd have to move Edler for a top 6 centre pretty much right away and they are a scarcity.

Also, with Weber's 7.5million reward, it would create a bit of discomfort in the dressing room with two art ross winners and a hart winner making that much less than him.

if weber comes it will be through free agency in two years.

Why not just wait till Weber and Suter are both UFA and sign them? Then we would have 3 of Nashville's best defencemen!

Good value but doesn't make us better. We'd go from having the 2nd best center depth in the league to the bottom 10. And our defence is already one of the best. No need to deal a weakness (if you can call our offence that) for a strength.

Kesler is not being traded.

Trading one of the best two way centres in the game leaves a gaping hole and Kesler is too valuable to the team overall anyway.

If Cody can step up, then Kesler becomes our 2nd line PF winger that we've been looking for.

Kesler had the same surgery on his other hip in 2007. He wasn't only "the same again", he was better.

Saying he might not be the same after his procedure is like saying your appetite might never be the same again after a bout of the flu.

If it was Weber + Legwand/Fisher/2nd line C for Kesler + Ballard + pick or something then yeah. Straight up? No.

Edler - Weber
Hamhuis - Bieksa

His butterfly style goaltending will never be the same.

Even if they were signed to exact contracts I wouldn't trade Kesler for Weber. but considering Kesler is signed for 5 more years at 5 million per and Weber is only signed for one more year at 7.5 million, there's not a chance I would make the trade.

Yes if we were able to negotiate a long term contract with Weber beforehand.

Then again, i'm slightly biased.

Can anyone tell me the last time two all-stars under the age of 27 were traded for each other?

Terrible trade for both teams.

We lose our entire 2nd line and add even more depth to our blueline. This trade makes us a worse team...
