The value isnt even there.

Kesler is signed long term on a solid cap hit. Weber is on a 1 year deal. Kesler's impact is also bigger as he plays an excellent 2 way game.

If you can get the best D-Man in the league straight up, I think you take it and then trade Cory S to shore up the 2nd line.
Weber was less than Stellar vs Kesler.

I don't see why Carolina would do this.

The Sedins and Burrows on the top line. Kesler, Iginla and somebody on the second line. Malholtra centering the checking line. This trade would increase Vancouver's chances of winning the Cup so much that it would be worth it IMO. The Sedins would all of a sudden be playing against everyone's second defensive pairings...lol

Yeah that might get it done in EA's NHL 2012 but that's about it. You're not going to entice another team with a quantity to quality deal when they have no existing locker room or contract issues with the better player.

Also, it's never a good sign when a fan making a trade proposal follows up by posting his teams lineup beat leaves out the other side

That's silly. It is not the same thing. These operationS take their toll.

Like I said, 2 years from now if/when we look back, I bet Weber will have been the better player by a long shot

Cmon, the guy just won the Calder. All I can say is at least you didn't post this on the main trade rumors board. Our reputation is dodgey enough as it is...

Will he be a 50% better player? To assume he'll sign for less than $7.5M cap hit is folly.

Also....2 years from now, we might be able to take a shot at Weber giving up nothing (or next year get Suter for nothing). Unlikely, but the possibility is there.

Weber is probably the better player, but it's trading from a position of weakness for a position of strength.

I like Skinner, but to give up 2 firsts, Raymond (or Samuelsson) and Ballard he would have to be godlike. But this trade makes little sense for either team.

The Canucks are a proven contender who have no gaping holes, but could use a power forward on the wing and another puck moving defenseman. So why would they want to give a puck moving defenceman, a proven productive winger (neither Raymond nor Samuelsson is a power forward, but Samuelsson is big and sturdy) and 2 first round picks for a 5'11" centre?

I like Skinner and he has developed as an NHLer very rapidly. But part of that is because he was drafted on a team with no scoring depth and was able to step into a #2 centre role as a rookie. I'm still optimistic that over the next 5 years, Cody Hodgson will develop into a similar role - a PPG 2nd line winger/centre. With Kesler and Raymond out to start the season, Hodgson is going to get a shot at that same opportunity. It's up to Cody to step through that door. Long term - is Skinner an upgrade on Hodgson - and if so, is the upgrade worth 2 roster players and 2 first round picks?

The 3 Canucks players you have mentioned are at all time lows in terms of trade value. Raymond is recovering from a serious injury and had a poor season in which he was never really healthy. Samuelsson is 35 years old and coming off an injury plagued season as well. The Canucks expect both Samuelsson and Raymond to bounce back to 55 point / 25 goals seasons.

Ballard had the worst year of his career, but with Ehrhoff gone, he has an opportunity to take on a bigger role with the team and regain his role as a top 4, mid-tier puck mover. He should rebound to have a 30 point season with fewer errors in his own end.

So because of the risk with Ballard and either forward, you include 2 first round picks.

For Carolina, it makes no sense to trade a 19 year old who put up 63 points (30 goals), who is on an entry level contract worth $1.4M for 2 veterans coming off bad years with a cap hit of over $7M. while they have some depth at centre (Staal, Skinner, Ruutu, Sutter) and are thin on the wings (Jokinen, Ponikarovsky), it would make more sense to trade Ruutu than Skinner.

If the Hart/Art ross trophy winners can turn 10-15 goal scorers to 30 goal scorers...Iginla would be a perennial 50+ goal scorer with the twins.
Doan would be a 35, 40+ goal scorer. etc etc etc

Regardless Parise combined with Kesler would take this team over the top! get'r done MG.

So... blow an irreplaceable hole in our offense and two-way game for the icing on the blue line?

Nope.

Only a team with a surplus of star forwards and needing help in the back end should do the trade for Weber because he ain't going cheap anywhere. But after the Carter/Richards trade I don't think there's a lot of teams oozing excess offensive stars. I dunno, Blues with Backes+? Pens with Staal+ or Malkin? Bruins with Bergeron (though his value to his team is similar to Kesler's to ours)?

I don't know. He is a top #3 D-man in the league but the fact his contract only goes for one year makes his value harder to gauge. We aren't making a run for him either way so no need for us to fancy this.
