Jeff Friesen

The Devils traded Friesen to the Capitals for a conditional 2006 draft pick.

If the Devs would have traded him to us and if the price was right, seems to me that he could be a solid Left Winger for us.

I wonder if Slats even inquired. What do you guys think?

What purpose would it serve? We already have Straka and Rucinsky at LW and I think 2 vets at one position is enough at this stage.

It would have cost us more, plus we don't need more vets at this stage.

Do you really see the Rangers and Devils making a deal?

Must have been desperate to trade him within the same conference.

Was that the secret CBA insider dope that NJ fans were talking about? I thought trades were always a part of the game. Just that u normally received equal value in return. What did NJ get? Friesen was a former 1st round pick. He should at least be worth a 2nd and a later pick, like a 5th. Anything less and they got riped off.

Not considering his salary - it's not outlandish, but certainly not good. Washington may be in the conference, but they are one of the few NHL teams that should pose no threat

Friesen was a first round pick 11 years ago.

I don't get how you figure all former first round draft picks still have good trade value.

I don't think any Devils' fans were in denial that we had to trade Friesen (and most likely Kozlov and somebody else).

about how to use the CBA to his advantage because he was involved in the negotiations. Trades have always been a part of hockey. No one needed a cap to make a trade. If he got a 3rd round pick, George McPhee should be fired. You have a fellow GM up against the wall and you don't give a 3rd rounder unless you are getting a player and their 3rd rounder. That is why I have doubs about is being written about what the pick is that NJ will receive. McPhee or even Sather could have waited to the cap deadline and got him for zero and maybe have part of his salary paid for by NJ.
