Both are areas that he still needs to work on. You can tell he's still not fully comfortable with his body size and mobility. He does really benefit from his outstanding reach and seems to know how to use that very well. every time I have seen Griffen play he is unreal. His size is ridiculous for a 16yo and his game great in the offensive zone as well. Ask the forwards around the dub about how they like playing against himhaha

The last time I saw a defenseman similar to Griffin Reinhart heading into his draft year (with the exception of maybe Jared Cowen pre-knee injury), Erik Johnson went first overall to the St Louis Blues. If not for him being maybe rushed along a little too quickly and having some unfortunate setbacks, EJ was bound for a great career.
I see alot of the same for Reinhart. This guy's the real deal, and even though he will start out the season behind at least one (maybe two or three) other WHL defenders, at the end of the day he does have the most attractive overall upside. Ryan Murray is the "safe" pick, Griffin Reinhart is the "sexy" pick. Give this guy a year or two of development in the 'dub after he's drafted, and he could very well be a franchise-type defenseman in the NHL.
EDIT: I should fix my paraphrasing ... by "like Griffin Reinhart," I mean having the size, skill, toughness, shot, and skating ability. There have been guys with some of those tangibles, but Reinhart looks to have them all.

I haven't seen Reinhart play but I'll try to catch his games this season.
I sincerely hope that this kid is brought along properly. That's a fair estimate on his draft range, I think. His stock may rise above Murray's, if he has a great year ... which may very well happen.

I think their skating is similar, having seen alot of both of them. Cowen was actually a very highly touted skater prior to his knee injury, and really started to show that off again this past season as the knee got stronger. Cowen's offense also gets underrated at times, one thing people have to remember is that his scouting report coming into the WHL was that he was a strong offensive player that needed defensive work - something he prided himself on improving. With Reinhart, I do think there is more offensive upside there, but on the contrary, I think his defensive game gets underrated; we have to remember that he played for a pretty weak Edmonton team this past year.
He's really a solid player all around. I don't think he'll dominate in any one area, but he certainly looks more than capable of playing nearly any role he's needed to.
Saw Reinhart play at the u18 camp and I legitimately think he can push his way into the top 3. He is so big and mobile. And anyone who saw the first red/white game saw that disgusting sauce he chucked on a two on one. Just an all around stud. Like I said yesterday on twitter: prediction- Murray get Couturier Syndrome while Reinhart, Ebert, and Dumba push him hard for the top dman spot.

Erik Johnson has a message for the Washington Capitals and their fans who seemed a little too gleeful at getting the Avalanche's first-round draft pick next year as part of a recent trade for goalie Semyon Varlamov:

Watched him for the first time this season today and to me his skating looks to have gotten worse. I also was hearing that during the World Under 18's earlier this summer.
That's a major concern for me.
I know he missed some time last year and maybe that has slowed his progress a bit, but it shouldn't have hurt his skating this much. Last year he looked big, quick, agile, strong, powerful.
This year he looks kind of clumsy.
The only thing I can think of besides injury would be the fact that maybe he grew an inch or two over the summer.
