I don't know the ins and outs of the complexity of the stat stroking that's been thrown around here the past few pages, but I do know this, those two HR's were awesome, and fun to watch.... but likely "shouldn't have happened b.c the square root of I told you so, plus the median temperature during the month of december and its relation of its effect of the mud they use for baseballs says so..."

*shrugs, but what do I know.

As a Redsox fan I have to deal with people crushing over Reddick the last few months. His BABIP was somewhere in the high .300's, completely unsustainable for the best in the league, let alone his caliber. You can enjoy the statistical side of baseball and the outliers at the same time. In fact, statistics predict that you're going to get outliers occasionally.
I think you're missing the point. Are you enjoying Adrian Gonzalez's year? His BABIP is .400. Unsustainable. So what, enjoy it while it lasts.

I have no illusion as to what Vance Worley is. I know that he is almost certainly going to come back down to earth, and I was never in the keep him over Dom Brown camp. That said, I don't let his peripherals and the fact that this run will end ruin my enjoyment of it while it happens.

You forgot to take the trajectory of the moon and the stars into account.

Cliff Lee is the most entertaining Phillies pitcher when he's on his game.

Yep, but actually I'm not enjoying it.
Also, it might stay higher than it did in SD simply because of that damn monster in Fenway. But no, not .400 for much longer... right?

I think the moment you start giving Mayberry regular ABs is the moment he gets exposed as a guy who can't hit anything other than fastballs.

So what's the title for the new thread? Pencesylvania? Dollars and Pence? Pence has got to be in there somewhere.

Let me put it to you this way. Do you enjoy watching Vance Worley pitch? Do you not care because eventually he's going to come back down to earth? Does it irritate you when people get excited about him pitching?

And I'm not talking about the "don't trade Worley, trade Brown" talk. I'm just saying the people who are enjoying watching him pitch.
Yes. You do realize that the stat conscious tend to be stat conscious because they love the sport and want to understand what is going on out there better, right?

What irks is the lack of appreciation for the nuance of the sport, and even in your post here the insinuation that you enjoy the sport more if you embrace the innocence of ignorance. I mean, seriously, do you really think knowing that Worley is pitching over his head (and then knowing why he's pitching over his head) reduces ones appreciation for the sport? The very proposition is ridiculous. If people didn't care about the sport, if they didn't enjoy watching the sport they wouldn't waste their time knowing Worley's stat line and performance with greater depth.

This very post is why Yoshi calls out the stupid.

Can one of you can volunteer opening a new thread since this needs to be shut (approaching 1,000 posts)?

We can change the title at any point.
