Habs10Habs & Whitesnake, what cars did you guys end up going with?
It took me awhile, as I delayed as long as possible getting rid of my Viper.
There were a few I seriously considered, but I settled on a 2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class. I pick it up next week. My wife talked me into buying a white one, which I know I'll regret.

Drag racing in one of those is something I'll never forget.

I was surprised at how peppy this was. Not in the same league as my Viper, but I was pushing 140 MPH with no problem during my test drive. Until I looked over and noticed that the salesperson was about to have a stroke.

congrats! did you choose the ml63 amg? it looks crazy!
Personally, I would not recommend this as a first car purchase. There are better options out there is this price range. However if you have already decided to get a VW Golf, then yes this makes more sense than buying a new one. Would look to get one with around 20,000 klms or less if it is only one year old.
I hope that 140 MPH was on a racetrack and not a public road endangering everyone around you.
Don't worry sammy, a friend of mine owns a 1/4 mile track not far from my house. I did some work for him, and as a favor, he let's me go out on the track from time to time. Also I made a mistake, I hit 140 KPH, not MPH.

I honestly didn't know anything about the M series until a couple of weeks ago. Once I started test driving them though, I really started to like them.

Those are really nice. I considered that or a ML 550 (2011 models). I ended up going for the ML 350 though. Since this is really supposed to be a family vehicle.

Appreciate the reply.
Even though I think I'm set on the VW Golf, I'm open to recommendations. What would you recommend in this price range?

Depends on what's important for you.
-Volkswagen or Mazda because they are fun to drive. (but unreliable)
-Honda or Toyota for long term reliability and resell value. (but boring)
-Ford are a good middleground option too.

Get a Golf TDI. The fuel efficiency is amazing, you can go to NYC and back on a single tank. The engine has a lot of torque and is much funner to drive than a 2.0. The best TDI engine is the ALH, from 1999-2003, but the BEW (2004-2006) is also good. VW stopped selling TDIs here for a few years after that due to new emission standards, so there's no 2007-2008 TDI. Sucks...
Only thing is the demand for those cars are extremely high, so if you find a good deal you gotta act quick.

I just bought my first car, a Chevy Cobalt sport. I bought the car on Tuesday and I want to if this is normal. The radio can still be played when the engine is off. Is this normal?

AFAIK all cars have the ability to play music and keep power on by starting car and not engine(not turning all the way with key).
Also, my old sunfire's radio stays on even after you close car for 10 minutes. It only stops before 10 minutes if you open the driver's door.
If it's what I said in 2nd situation, yes. I can throw the keys, burn them, whatever, unless I open that door after shutting off car, it stays on for 10 minutes.

Yes, but open the door and it won't. Assuming you stay in your car up to that point, it's just the radio. It's not like heating, radio, lights and all that are on. Not saying it doesn't count but do you plan on sitting in your car for 10 minutes or more everytime you stop driving? Probably not.
