The league size goes up from seven to nine and could see an increase to up to 12 teams in the future. The teams entered for the 2011-2012 season are: Donbass Donetsk, Sokil Kyiv, Kompanion Kyiv, Bily Bars Brovary, Vorony Sumy, Berkut Kyiv, Kharkivski Akuly, Tsunami Ivano-Frankivsk, LAZ Lviv.

The new league will kick off on 16th September. The league’s General Director Yuri Zagorodni explained at a press conference that there will be no salary cap, but a minimum budget of $300,000. The assembly approved other requirements such as arena standards, and clubs are obliged to run junior teams or to be affiliated with hockey schools. Each team is allowed to sign up to seven import players.
Holy Mackeral!. The wonders never cease with hfBoards. Followed your link Billy. Had no idea there was a section dedicated to Eastern European Leagues. That thread on the boh boards should be here Im thinking.

Glad I could help. Endless discoveries in the HFBoards. I recently discovered the "Page 2". But agreed, the thread should be in here, not in the 'business of hockey'.
300k minimum is a good starting point I think, the UK hockey league is something like 300-450k maximum salaries. Also limiting teams to 7 imports is smart, local players will get to develop, seems like a good step for Ukrainian hockey.
any word on how this will be done? like how Sokil has a tier-2 squad for the regular season, but then drops the big boys from the belarusian league in for the playoffs?
or will players play in both, depending on scheduling?

It is my understanding that Sokil Kyiv will only play in the Ukrainian professional league this year and not play in the Belarussian league.
i've been digging and i found an alternate roster listing for Donbas, but some players (namely, ukrainian ones) are listed on both the UHL roster and the official VHL roster on hcdonbass.com
so....the plot thickens....i guess we'll find out once the ukie league opens and we get some score sheets
I found a couple of interviews. Apparently his father was exiled from Ukraine to work coal mines in Komi during the Purges (when he died they sent the body back to Ukraine). He has a bunch of Ukrainian relatives living in Edmonton now too apparently.
I mean, aside from it being god awful, but now the schmuck can't decide if he's using Ukrainian or Russian (site and player names are translated to Russian, team names and official stuff, position, countries, etc. is in Ukrainian....wtf.)
edit: there's no way this can be official, he's lifting the team logos from wikipedia

lol, I think they must support both languages, as Ukrainian hockey is somewhat integrating into the KHL/VHL/MHL system and Russian fans, such as myslef, may wanna know the state of affairs in Ukraine, even though I understand a lot of Ukrainina it gives me head-ache, lol

This pathetic web-page is the only thing stopping me from following the UPL

No, by all means it should come in both languages....but this is coming in both at the same time. You can't mix alphabets! (as similar as they are)
