Wantagh. I've always found it funny that when an Isles game ends 75% of the traffic seems to go south on the Meadowbrook and not north, remarkable how most of the fans in Nassau all seem to be from the south shore vs. the north. Same when I've taken the LIRR to the city for Yankee games, never seem to be any jerseys or hats on the north shore branches but the train is packed with them on the Babylon line.

My hatred for the Habs, the 1977-78 O-Pee-Chee #332 Islanders logo card (as Newfoundland is an island....hey I was 7), my infatuation with Mike Bossy's rookie season, my hatred of Wayne Gretzky and the splendor of the Cup dynasty, all cemented my allegiance to the Isles. The Isles provided some of the happiest moments of my childhood.

I haven't read all the posts but I would like to maybe break it down better. The poll is a good idea but it could be better if say you used the following:

Suffolk
Nassau
Queens
Brooklyn
Westchester
Staten Island
Manhattan
Upstate NY
Out of state less then 100 miles
Out of state 100 to 500 miles
Out of state 500 to 1000 miles
Out of state over 1000 miles
Canada
Country other then US or Canada

Thanks for asking to my first post.

I'm a Japanese national who lived in NJ back in early-mid 80's when I was a kid. It was of course the days of late Islanders dynasty but I was at the time mostly a MLB (Yankees/Mets) and NFL (Jets) fan and didn't really care about hockey.

While my interest in NFL continued, I happened to catch 2009 first overall pick player (of course, JT) in my eyes when I was surfing through website, and then started to root for this team from last year. Like many of people around here, I was frustrated during the losing streak (questioning my decision to root for the Isles ), but now I'm really looking forward to this up and coming young team .

Well, it's great to have an Islander fan from such a long way. I enjoyed my trips to Japan, went to see a Hanshin Tigers game in Osaka and worked on a commercial with Tadanobu Asano for Kagome in Toyko while I was there.

I put Nassau, because living so close to the coliseum is probably the main reason behind me becoming an Isles fan. However, like most people from Nassau in their early 20's, I will be leaving Nassau for Queens at the end of the month.

considering the cost of living and the amount of young people leaving the island, it's def not surprising to see "other" in the lead.

Wow, I never expected to see words of Hanshin Tigers (which is my favorite baseball team) or Kagome (tomato juice I drink) on this thread!

I've been to LA on a holiday, but was too short to enjoy everything. Would like to visit again, but my first task should be a visit to the Isles game in NVMC.

When you go to NY, you should make it in April and try and catch an Islander game and a Yankee game. Although my hopes are that the Islanders will be playing well into May and possibly June as well.

Speaking of Yankees, I worked on a few commercials with Matsui. We've been doing Komatsu commercials every year in february prior to spring training. This year we did them in Phoenix at the A's facility, last year was Tempe, the Angels facility and years ago while Matsui was with the Ynakees we did an ice cream commerial in St Petersburg at the Phillies spring training home (the Yankees wouldn't permit us to film at Legends field in Tampa). He's a very nice humble man.

I'm guessing you became a fan, because you thought at first the name of the team was the
New York Icelanders.
