I'm not talking about the ones who are good enough, I'm talking about the ones who aren't and will chase a pipe dream that isn't realistic. There are thousands of kids playing junior A, B & even junior C in hopes of making it to major Jr A.

A quick update from the Canada World Jrs. development camp. There is a game being played, red vs white. Apparently Beaulieu is playing a good game.

mike_morreale Mike Morreale
Great shift by Beaulieu on Red defense. Taking the body, aggressive to pucks.

Mike Morreale
Nathan Beaulieu chips another home for Red, which grabs 3-1 edge w/ 10:20 left in first.

I can't wait to see him play this year at Habs camp.

Would indeed be fun if he makes it but whether he does it or not, doesn't mean a single thing. This guy is DA REAL DEAL for years to come.

Future of Montreal's defense:

Subban, Emelin, Tinordi and Beaulieu

Add Morgan Ellis, Mac Bennett, Brendon Nash and Mark Mitera to that mix as well

It would be great for him! But he'll need a good start with Saint-John in order to make it. There's a lot of talent in Canada.

Don Hay said the two players who impressed him most yesterday were Mark Visentin and Brendan Gallagher.

FYI, Gallagher was playing on a line with Bournival and Hamilton while Beaulieu was paired with Pysyk.

love to hear that about Gallagher...

despite his small stature, I wouldn't be surprised one bit to see him make the team over some more "appealing" or "hyped" prospects not just for his skill/talent, but because good coaches always value having a few players that are models of work ethic/attitude... ESPECIALLY when they are also strong contributors.

both Bournival and Gallagher have the mental game and talent to fit that bill, I really hope we get to see them (and dare i be so greedy as to add Beaulieu to that list as well) play in the World Junior champs... living in Calgary it would probably push me to shell out for a few tickets.

Poor Yannick Weber. So underated.

Not as good as Subban, but he'll be a very good offensive D in the NHL in the coming years. Quote me on it.

He's had about as good a progression as one could hope for his style of defense. People would be gaga over him if Subban didn't play the same role and same position while developing at a meteoric pace.

The reason I left him out is because I really think he is excellent trade bait for the Habs and can be packaged with a draft pick, look around the NHL and you will see several teams in need for 1) A puck moving defenseman 2) A young defenseman with experience NOT making too much money

Back to the topic. I am extremely excited about this pick. Most of you will love Beaulieu. He was a very exciting player for the Saint John Sea Dogs, I can't believe he dropped in our lap.

I've had the pleasure of watching this kid for the last couple of years and love everything I have seen from him so far. I believe he is the real deal.

I was practically shouting "pick Beaulieu!!!" at my TV when the Habs were walking up (actually I think I really was shouting it). I was terrified they were going to get up there and pick Zack Phillips or something...

I would of puked. Literally puked. I hate Phillips as a player. IMO, he is to Huberdeau what Chouinard was to gagné back in the days..

There was no doubt in my mind we were going to pick him when he was available.

There was way too much evidence, from his participation at the Habs combine (Nate tweeted about it when he came here), to the Bruins 2011 draft watch guy tweeting and writing about the Habs being hot after Beaulieu on draft day, Timmins following the Sea Dogs in the playoffs, the fact they never take poor skaters in round 1 (eliminates Phillips), etc.

The finest 1st round pick we had in a while (as far a sexy is concerned, i didn't know **** about Max Pac at the time), even though i'm pleased with Louis and Jarred.

The real question is, is Gorges captain material?

Gorges seems vocal and maintains a good relationship with the group from the interviews and little pieces I read. Captained Kelowna to a Mem Cup and captained the WHL team in some tournament IIRC. So he's been there, done that. The REAL question is whether the org will keep him around.
