The end of an era.

Somehow I don't like this trade, but I think Fletch will pull it off. Rookie year aside, he's been very shrewd.

Also, wtf with the Sharks connection?

I was actually hoping to see him get sent to Houston, and go through a Gillies transformation into a useful player.

Oh well. It's not like it's some big loss. I'm amazed anyone would give up a top 100 pick for him.

I would have settled for a bag of pucks. But a draft pick is always nice. Way to go, Fletch.

If by stats you mean draft position.

If Fletcher got a 3rd for Sheppard, I guess it will take Thornton to get Latendresse, eh?

Let's just say... this is the move that will make most Wild fans the HAPPIEST all offseason! Shep for a 3rd in 2013 is a fricking STEAL for the Wild!

Not sure; better throw Couture in for good measure.

Quick run down for San Jose fans (we should just merge forums guys!):

2006-07: has a great year in the Q, improving offensively quite a bit, hell of a two-way center

2007-08: completely dominates in some CHL preseason games and gets an NHL deal...plays for Lemaire on the 4th line and limited minutes, very snake bit offensively. Work ethic is questioned and he clashes with Lemaire some.

2008-09: plays third line center and does a decent job, but still not looking like a 1st round talent...obviously lost all confidence offensively and tries to play a more physical game, which isn't impressive.

2009-10: new coach and fresh start, he looks pretty bad most of the year, slow foot speed, no offensive ability, can hold the puck decently on the boards but that's about it, lots of time in the press box.

2010-11: lots of talk in the offseason about needing to prove himself, signs a 1-year deal, and then injures himself on an ATV before training camp...spends the entire year injured and then rehabbing after getting surgery on his knee.

My outlook is that he's going to have to really dedicate himself to become a bottom six player in the NHL. Poor foot speed combined with a serious knee injury doesn't give me confidence. He was supposed to be one of the smartest players in his draft year, but never showed it. Seems like the game passed him by. Not much to speak of offensively either. Good size though.

I think we all know what REALLY happened here.

There's only room for ONE Shep in this organization.

his development was botched from day 1. Should have never been put in the NHL at 19, that was Risebrough being cheap.

I first read it is

Sheppard for a 13th rounder.

I was still happy.

I got nothing against Shepp. He needs a change. Good luck man.

Hey, with 3rd rounders we drafted Clutter and Hackett, and used them to move up to grab Zucker and Lucia. We can appreciate the hell out of another draft pick with that talent.

Oh god yes.

We wrecked Sheppard.

Even if he becomes a 50-60 point producer for the Sharks, he was never going to become that here.

The Burns trade then the Havlat trade and now this? The deals keep getting bigger!

But really, it sucks Shep didn't even turn into a shell of what he was projected to be.

Yeah, but Sheppard's arrogance in believing he didn't have anything to learn from one of the best coaches in modern NHL history sure as hell didn't help his development either.

O'Sullivan had a poor attitude = AHL All-Star
Voloshenko had a poor attitude = AHL bust
Pouliot had a poor attitude = part-time servicable NHL player
Sheppard had a poor attitude = Absolute NHL bust

DR's biggest draft flaw may have been his lack of ability to spot attitude problems in prospects! Hell... he even traded for other team's attitude problems... such as Kalus!

So, we essentially just gave you guys our 3rd rounder for nothing...

I don't want to come off as a troll but this guy is just so unbelievably bad. I don't get it.

Based on the general feeling about Sheppard by Wild fans, I don't think anyone will accuse you of trolling with those comments.
