2012 is deeper, with more high end guys, the pick is likely 31-40, our 1st was 28 in a weak draft.

Just so some get an idea on value of picks.

1st round- top 5, 95% NHLers, 6-15, 75% NHLers, 15-30, 50% NHLers. If not NHLers then definitely AHLers.

2nd round - 33% NHLers, definitely AHLers.

3rd thru 5th - beyond 75% AHLers

6th and 7th - chance of being AHLers

Saying that a 3rd is a marginal AHLer is just plain wrong. Should be a slamdunk for AHL with around a 20% chance of NHL. In terms of deadline deals, a 3rd will generally net a 3rd liner or bottom pairing dman.

The Sharks know there are 28 other teams in the league right? Man, it seems like Wilson and Fletcher are good buddies this year or something.

Since it does seem like the San Jose Wild this year, has anyone actually watched the Wild's new series, Becoming Wild. I've heard a lot about it, but haven't watched it yet. I did watch the first few minutes of episode one online and it looked interesting.

It must have been part of Burns contract negotiations.

Wait, people are criticizing Doug Wilson. Just a few days ago people were worshiping him as the savior. Love the "What have you done for me lately" mentality that sometimes affects sports and offseason signings.

DW thinks he's playing NHL 11, Sheppard is an 81. I remember people were saying that about him signing Mayers last year, who is ranked 80.

Sheppards potential is also 90 with 100 games in his career ! DW had to get him to play with Havlat to improve the teams chemistry.

i don't mind trading 3rd round picks but i am absolutely against pissing them away like this. sheppard has a bad attitude, a bad knee, and is an absolute bust. wild fans are ecstatic they got rid of him, let alone a 3rd round pick. agh.

Watch sheppard score a cup clinching goal. That'd be hilarious.

Interesting, that season the only players who had worse +/-‘s were Martin Havlat, Marek Zidlicky and Brent Burns.

More on Sheppard.

Not crazy about this trade and I don't think he'll be amazing or anything but judging by his numbers in the juniors and considering the offense he had to play with in 07/08 and 08/09 he put up decent numbers (just look at the Wild roster for those two seasons, you'll see what I mean), I think he has the potential to put up 30-40 pts.

I'm no expert whatsoever, but do we not get some sort of compensatory pick if we don't re-sign him since he was a first round pick? Similar to what happened to Pat White?

No since he has already been on an elc.

How can the Sharks trade for an injured player?

The same way the Kings can trade for Fraser or the Leafs can trade for Lombardi. A team can trade for a player "as is" and waive a physical or any tests if they want to acquire an injured player.
