When your first 6 prospects are Despres, Tangradi, Bennett, Jeffrey, Morrow, and Kuhnhackl, you're doing pretty well for yourself. No absolute blue chippers, but 2 prospects with legit top pairing potential, 3 prospects with legit top 6 potential, and a two-way forward prospect who's already acquitted himself very well at the NHL level.

That's to say nothing about the amount of players who've succeeded in the AHL and project to at least be solid role players in the NHL. Strait, Bortuzzo, Thiessen, Vitale, etc.

Calgary

San Jose has the ability to win the cup now so it stings a lot less.

who in your opinion has the worst prospect pool?
Kind of a bizarre statement about the Avs, as I am not sure how having traded away 2012 first and second round picks affects their current pool. As far as those picks are concerned, they traded Boston's 2nd round pick, which is likely to be in the 50-60 range.

In any event, the Avs have a strong pool at the moment, with the following prospects (in no particular order):

1) Gabriel Landeskog LW
2) Duncan Siemans D
3) Joey Hishon F
4) Stefan Elliot D
5) Tyson Barrie D
6) Calvin Pickard G
7) Ryan Stoa LW
8) Cameron Gaunce D

Ha no kidding. How many teams have a better prospect pool than the Sens right now? Very few.

As a Devils fan I totally agree, our prospect pool was garbage up until about two years ago. Now we've got one of the better ones in the NHL.

I don't think it's a coincidence that once both New Jersey and Ottawa started drafting consistently out of Sweden that both of their prospect pools started to get much better. Rundblad/Zibanejad/Lehner/Silfverberg and Larsson/Tedenby/Josefson/Urbom are both great young cores of prospects.

The Pens have a deep, but ordinary prospect pool. So it's understandable when some don't rate them as highly as others.

Winnipeg to me looks pretty weak.

Flames have by far the worst though.

It's a toss up between San Jose and Calgary.

The Flames. Losing Erixon didn't help matters.

Came in here to post this, although I wouldn't have Stoa on this list. I also would have included Aittokallio or Desjardins.

The flames are still horrible, Erixon was the lone bright spot and he didn't want to play in calgary. Bartschi is interesting but a lot of guys put up 85 points in major junior and don't materialize. Granlund is interesting too, having performed well in a mens league in finland, but again, its not like he is a bona fide blue chip. The flames have drafted horribly for years, and there is really nothing in the talent pool worth writing home about.

the fact that leland irving is 4th on the flames list tells you everything you need to know.

Yet Eddie Lack sits at #3 on the Canucks list.

Leland Irving was his team's best player, Statistics don't show you everything.

Kudos for being a dedicated fan, but it seems like you are making less of an argument for the quality of the flames prospects as you are sticking up for your team no matter what they do.

I had a similar reaction upon reading that comment. I agree with you that the Avs have quite a strong pool. Not sure if I would add Stoa (I personally think he's a chronic AHLer), but you could also make the case for Aittokallio to be on the list.

...and it looks like someone else is on the same page as me!

It's tough to defend your prospect's when HF hold's a certain stigma towards certain team's or players, It has gotten to the point where there is a preconceived notion that the flames will always have the worst prospect group in the league.

Winnipeg has Scheifele, Klingberg and Postma. That's it.

San Jose is probably the worst though, I don't see how Calgary has the worst prospects.
