Locker Room Documentary?

I just finished watching "Oil Change" about the Oilers rebuild and read a few things about Minny's documentary too. It's awesome to peek behind the scenes like that. Very entertaining.

I started thinking about what it would be like if they did with Montreal's players? Gill yapping? Subban being a smartass? Cammy ribbing Gomer for his cold streak? Does Martin talk between periods or was it Muller?

I liked the "a day in the life" videos they did last season, but I'm talking like in the room before/after games, at practice, etc.

Would you like to see a documentary like that next season?

I'm a big documentary guy, I would love to see one on just about any team.

If you havent seen it yet you should check out "Junior", it's on itunes, it follows baie comeau in the quebec league for a season a few years ago. "The Chiefs" was entertaining also.

No. Teams who put on shows for the camera suck. It takes focus off of the hockey.

It would be a huge distraction, especially in Montreal. Can you imagine the threads that will pop up? "Price didn't smile when looking at Markov. Locker room squabble!!!" or "(on a snowy day) Jacques Martin: is that white stuff on his jacket cocaine??!"

Usually that stuff comes from rampant, rabid imagination.

Think about it logically for a second; if anything it'll reduce those hush-hush "I heard from a friend who is a sister of a friend who works at a bar" rumours.

A lot of it isn't show though. I mean obviously they talk to players and coaches on the side, but it isn't that much of a distraction. The guys are at the rink on practice/game days. It just follows them around and some players take 10-20 minutes a week to talk about a few things on camera. I don't see the issue.

I can see that stuff happening, but it happens all the time. It's been quiet lately, but back when Subban was benched and was fighting at practice, they made a huge deal out of it. They'll make a story out of thin air. Plus, these documentaries are well-edited. Anything that is unnecessary rumour-fodder would be edited out. I just think it would be entertaining from a hardcore fan's standpoint and hilarious watching Subban and Gill joke around. Plus we can get to see Gauthier, Martin and their staff behind closed Bell Centre doors.

I like these kinds of documentary too.

They should have done it at the 100th year celebrations. Now I'm not sure they would do it just for the sake of doing it, like some people said, it will cause a distraction for the players for nothing with all the cameras inside the locker room.

Another interesting on and off ice documentary.

Oilers did Oil change throughout the whole season because no one was kidding themselves. They knew they sucked and that type of distraction isn't a big problem.

I wish the Habs organization could do something like the Wild is actually doing someday.

I just love documentaries so why not? I'd love to see how the locker room went from the Disaster Year aka Centennial to what is it is now. We have a lot of character guys with big hearts and seeing how it came about would be really special imo.

Training camp documentary would be nice. The rest is asking for too much.

No not really. They don't interrupt daily routine.

I would love it but the Habs ownership and management will NEVER allow this.

From what I remember, they were supposed to. It was part of the list of DVDs that would be coming out (along with Pour toujours les Canadiens, and Top Ten Best Games, and others). I assume the idea was nixed a few months into the season, though heh.

no, NO NO NO, NOOOOOOOO!! it would just be another god damn distraction. it's bad enough they don't leave them alone every other hour of the day. Media has to stay the hell out of it. How are guy's supposed to concentrate when you got idiots buzzing around your head while the coach is talking.

Anyone know if they'll be doing Nos Habs or whatever it was again this year?

I still want to see an Andrei Kostitsyn one. I just know it will be gold.

Fair enough but I'm pretty sure the coach waits until after the media is done their schtick to instruct his players.

It's a bad idea, locker room stuff + hypocritical and nitpicking fanbase + media = just too much of a distraction.

Obviously everyone said that, but yeah.. We really don't need to know.

As long as they get rid of Anne-Marie Withenshaw and her worthless questions.

"So you're a professional hockey player. What do you think of hockey? Do you like it?"

Yeah what kind of answer does she expect? "No I actually prefer video games and chess, only reason I play hockey is for the $".

I'd love to see one, the question isn't "do you think a documentary will distract the players?"

I love behind the scenes stuff. Like LyricalLyricist mentioned, a training camp documentary heading into the season and possibly covering the first game of the season would be great.

Well, in fairness, she would have gotten an interesting answer out of Brett Hull...

While I would love to see one of these done on the Habs, the brass will never let it happen.

There was a documentary 1-2 years ago that I saw on TV about medical jobs in sports (cutman in boxe, medical staff in hockey, CFL, etc.). We saw 20-30 minutes on the habs if I remember correctly with Graham Rynbend, at that time Gainey was still the GM and Markov was hurt. Kostitsyn was also on the injury list at that moment, and Gainey wanted him to come back even though he wasn't 100%.

It wasn't a full documentary on the habs, but it was still interesting.

Although my voyeuristic side might be persuaded...

Big resounding NO for me. Major distraction. Locker room should be only for players and coaching staff.
