High school, while very useful for dating, playing sports, and planning your weekends, provides the perfect
environment for pulling a Ferris Bueller to watch the game. By Monday the 10th, no one will remember that you cut class, and
you'll always remember that day. As a parent myself, I'd be
disappointed in my kids if they didn't capitalize on such opportunities.
I second this one, as someone in their late 30s who is successful by most measures. Just make sure you study hard for the finals.

With the comment That Stepan Guy, it's much tougher to skip classes during boarding school as opposed to public. I guess I have to check out a book and use the school library to watch a stream of the game.

All the more reason to find a way to skip and watch. No one said they had to know!

Man, if I could go back to high school and do even more ridiculous things.

i have class until 12:40 on fridays although it's my first day of that specific class so maybe i'll manage to get out early. if the game is at noon i'll bring a laptop and stream the first period, if it's at 1 i'll probably be home in time for the opening faceoff

Yeah i saw that, I am really unhappy about it!!! My cousin is getting married in Minnesota this Augusta and I refused to take a half day on Friday to leave and get there 10 hours earlier than saturday morning...however this is the opening game of the 2011-2012 season I think a half day is in order haha

lol. I would skip school all the time for Rangers and Mets games.

However I ended up dropping out of HS and getting my GED, so. ..

But really, its not a big deal. You miss one day, who cares?

no offense, but you are probably not the person who should be giving advice about school.

Besides, why would you need to skip school for Rangers games when all their non-weekend games are at night?

I thought I'd share a vivid dream I had last night. Opening night in Stockholm, we're down 2-0 late in the third when MDZ (I know) decided to rush into the zone, ridiculously dangle a couple Kings, and fire one over Quick's shoulder to cut the lead in half. This was followed by a Sauer slapper into the corner which ricocheted out in front, was bobbled and poked home by Dubi with 4 seconds left. We won in overtime (not sure how) but it was a very exciting ending. I don't have a dream log book so I'll keep this here in case it actually occurs.

As someone who missed class regularly it's HS... Missing one day is not a big deal. Not At All.

I just found out my schedule for College and I have class until 1:30 PM on Friday and by the time I get home, it will be approximately 3:30 PM... Just when the game ends.

I guess I'll be recording this one...

I agree in the scheme of things it's not a big deal. But my point is this is simply the first game of the season...and it's not even at home. So unless you are going to Sweden to watch in person, to me at least I'd rather just DVR it and skip a day of school for something more important...perhaps a road trip to Washington/Philly/etc. for an away playoff game or something that has real implications. But skipping school to watch a road hockey game seems a bit unnecessary in my opinion.
