Yea, he's actually a really good defenseman. Just that nobody in the NHl realizes it? Is that the deal? He signed a 2 way deal with the Blues. Really good defenseman aren't forced to sign 2 way deals to get a spot playing somewhere. He wasn't stuck anywhere. His level of play has him where he was. Lilja is absolutely a better defender at the NHL level, than Syvret.

Lilja has been an NHL defenseman for how many years now, and has played over 500 NHL games. Syvret has yet to establish himself as an NHL player, and just had to sign a 2 way deal. You don't have to go out on a limb at all to call that. You just have to have some common sense.

If we we have to rely on this guy for any significant stretch of time we are in trouble. If you thought we had issues on the bottom pairing backend a couple of years ago. Wait till you see this guy. Lilja makes OD look like a great skater.

Lilja is a reliable defender and can play on the PK. Is any other team any different if they have to rely on a 6/7 guy for any significant stretch of time? He's a depth player. He plays a physical game, and blocks shots well. And he is experienced. He has limitations to his game, and will turn some pucks over. As long as the Flyers limit his minutes and games, and don't overplay him, he'll be a solid veteran depth defenseman. That's why he's here
