In the near future (3-5 years), Colorado, Islanders, Edmonton.
So the team that made it to game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals aren't close to winning? Good to know

Bruins have a damn good shot this year. I agree with the consensus that it will be one of the Bruins, Penguins, Caps, or Hawks to do it.

Pittsburgh and Chicago in the next ten years... maybe. Detroit and Washington have some chance as well. I want to see Edmonton make the playoffs first, before anointing them anything, same for the Islanders.
I don't think it will happen anytime soon. Maybe 4, 5 years at the least.

The same could have been said before the Pens and Hawks were stacked.

You build around young players who can progress.

Why is it so difficult to imagine these young teams with tons of talent and prospects become contenders?

Chill out there spaz. I accidentally forgot them.

They could win back to backs, but they are gonna need to do it sooner rather than later.

Edit: And it's back to back wins, not just one.

LOL at Edmonton. Make the playoffs first, then we'll talk.

While on the subject of back to back, to this day, I'm still stumped as to how Colorado never at least made it to the Final two years in a row. They had some amazing teams.

Bruins have as good as a shot as anyone ever will. We stayed the same at the least, Pouliot might prove to be decent, and Corvo might improve our PP. With all of our young guys, Timmy, and Rask behind him, they still have a great shot.

The Hawks, Bruins, Pens, and Caps are all young teams that aren't even in their primes yet, and we'll probably see a lot of them, then look out for Edmonton, NYI, and Colorado in the next few years.

Every year we hear about how the champion from the previous season is the favorite, is improved, has a great chance to repeat, etc. and yet since 1999 only two of them have even managed to get back to the finals. I'd wager the Bruins go out in the 1st or 2nd round, just like the Blackhawks, Penguins, and Ducks (the Hurricanes, of course, didn't even make the playoffs) and then the cycle repeats itself again next summer.

To be fair, Anaheim probably would have been in a great position to do better than that. Their team would have been almost exactly the same, and they weren't in any trouble cap wise. It was when Niedermayer and Selanne were contemplating retirement that things got messy. Burke's signings, to replace them, put them in a really bad cap situation that they are only now getting out of.

If not for that, I think they would have had as good a chance as any team to repeat. Looking back, it's kind of disappointing. Oh well.

Don't see it. Where is your 1st pick going this season?

Oilers and Islander maybe , but Colorado? No chance.

There's a bit of a difference competing with a hang over, then without one. Most cup winners will tell you that. The only reason Detroit was able to get back to the finals in 09 is because they were able to keep the same roster, then add a 7 million dollar player. Despite this the hangover was evident in the abysmal team defense the team had in 2009.

Salary cap makes it like 3x as hard.
