Out of curiosity, when was the last time Tikhonov played significant time at center?

He's pretty much a San Jose resident.

Players usually train where they live during the offseason. OEL is probably working out in Sweden and Turris is probably up in BC.

He can't be assigned to the AHL without first being subjected to waivers.

I would like to see him on the second line for a full season before judging him to be an AHL lifer. I saw flashes of real talent in him. It would appear, and disappear for a bunch of games. I wonder if he needs a fire lit under his bottom to put out the effort all the time.

We do have a grace period here. If he doesn't make the team out of training camp, he can be assigned to the AHL before a certain date before being subject to waivers.

With that said, if he doesn't make the team and is assigned to Portland before the waiver period, he can't be called up or sent down after that without the risk of losing him. So I would hope that the management uses the better judgment and makes a move before he loses credibility as far as trade value.

He probably doesn't have a choice - isn't he still in Tent City or did he finish his sentence?

I don't believe that's true. I don't believe he can be assigned at any point without clearing waivers.

Good to know. I like the KHL clause and all, but if he can't crack the line up, we may as well cut bait, any how. But then again, if he goes over to the KHL and ends up top five in scoring, well, we'll be glad to have retained his rights.

Seems like he'll be competing with Miele et al for that 3rd line center spot. Personally I hope he wins it, because I think he could excel in Tippett's system.

The only players that can be assigned to the AHL before the Waivers Period starts are players that are waiver exempt. Tik wouldn't be eligible to be assigned to the AHL [or KHL for that matter] without first clearing waivers.
