No touch Icing

I think if the NHL institutes no touch icing it will be detrimental to the state of the game. No touch icing is for girls and thats what the players will be seen as if it is instituted

Or, it will prevent injuries and keep good players on the ice?

I bet if HFboards was alive in the late 70s, you'd see similar posters like this guy complaining about helmets being for girls and ruining the game.

it will also make them lazy because instead of chasing they will just stand there waiting for the puck to cross the line

You seriously made an account, AND a thread to post this?

I respect your opinion, but i think being against it needs a better explanation.

I can see nothing bad about the no touch icings.

Or actually accelerate the game pace, since you don't have to wait for a player to reach the puck before blowing the whistle.

And the players have about 5 seconds less to catch their breath after an illegal icing before the faceoff, which means they will probably fear icings even more.

And less injury. But I will miss the puck race that some players manage to pull off. It's impressive.

No touch icing I see is another thing that I just can't see working in the nhl.

i think it's a simple thing to implement. we've already seen it internationally, and many (if not every) NHL player has experience with it.

But is two guys racing to the end of the ice just so the whistle can be blown "hockey"? I mean sure it is fun the 1/100 times when a guy actually beats the icing and maybe makes a play but is it worth it? I'd rather they just blow the whistle as soon as the puck crosses the line and hurry up and get another face-off going.

Then why have an empty net 6 on 5 hockey? Sure its fun 1/100th of the time when it actually works and they tie the game, but is it worth it? I mean the chances of it working are slim and I'd rather finish the game rather than go to ot

6 on 5 hockey does not result in more injuries.

They should only blow the whistle if the opposing player doesn't have a chance of touching it first. If they both have a chance, don't blow the whistle. Hybrid style.

That's what I would like to see too. I don't see any reason to postpone the inevitable, but if a player has a legitimate chance of getting the icing waived off I'd like to see the play allowed to continue.

They should just give a delay of the game penalty to a team who ices the puck.

better yet, they should take off a goal, or give their star player a game misconduct

As someone who watches the WHL a lot, there is one thing that annoyed me about no touch icing. When there was a missed breakaway pass the forward would still have a chance to be first to the puck, but there would be a icing call.

Never really thought about this because it never happens in the NHL. But after having played in a no-touch icing league, I can say (from my experience at least) that although not a common problem, it is certainly annoying.

Besides the injuries suffered from icing races, I don't really see anything wrong with the current format. I for one hope that it doesn't change.

They've done this in the NCAA and it's worked great. I'm a vote for this.

The only point you are right about is less injury. The linesmen will still have to skate to grab the puck before the next faceoff. It will not save time. As for injuries, there is the potential for injury on every play. Honestly... how many players get injured because of touch icing? The only player I can think of without google is Bergeron.

EDIT: I am a huge fan of the hybrid idea.
