I guess this seals that whole "He's not going to the NCAA" thing.

Interesting. Maloney's figured out that in order to get to the cap floor having a bunch of rookies making max cap (but little chance of hitting the actual bonus levels) but lower actually salary. Exact opposite of teams like the Devils who are getting rookies to sign for less cap. Murphy has a higher hit than one of the players who was talked to be the first overall pick in the draft in Larsson.

I take it you are referring to two or three years down the road when you are referring to getting to the cap floor.

This is another "put it in the bank" signing similar to Gormley last year. Sign the player, develop the player and reap the rewards.

I suppose planning for cap management issues down the line makes sense. Build some flexibility into the system.

I wonder if there was an issue, or some bickering possibly going on by someone, somewhere that sort of caused DM to do this, to make things official.

I wonder if this was a condition to get Murphy to bypass college...

Well, yeah I know this bypasses college. But Im just wondering if this contract was to make a statement. Whatever, it pry goes without saying that's what it's for.

What I mean is why now? We could have waited until next year to sign him correct? But in order to convince the Murphy camp to go to the OHL, maybe we promised to sign him this year?

Waiting until after they graduate college didn't work so well, either.

Fine with the signing, gives Connor a little $ up front - probably $92.5k signing bonus this year.

Gives the Yotes flexibility. The contract could slide the next two seasons if Connor doesn't get in 10+ NHL games in a season. Also I assume the team has the flexibility to assign him to the AHL if they decide that would be better for his development instead of sending him to Sarnia.

Man, can you imagine? I'm going into the Air Force this year and my signing bonus for 6 years for my job is 13 grand. I get 6.5 of it uprfront. As a 19 year old I feel lucky.

This kid is 17 and just got over 90 thousand dollars

Julie from Hockeybuzz comments on Murphy

"Connor Murphy is really good at hockey. For a big guy (6'3, 200), he is an excellent skater…so fluid and what a slapshot. His goal seemed to find the back of the net before I even saw it leave his stick. I spoke with him after the game and he's loving the pace of the games and while sometimes that causes guys to rush, he realized that he had more time and space that he thought which allowed him to make smarter decisions with the puck."

Connor Murphy #Coyotes out today vs. Sweden anyway, but walking around on a crutch. Said he hurt his right knee during post-practice work
"

HAHA what a horrible draft choice, suck for him personally but very retarded to draft a player that can't ever stay healthy and has now a bad knee that will be very hard to get 100% out and a bad back that kept him from playing for 2 years , and hes still a teenager

I can't believe the hate for this kid by you guys. I watched him at the U-18s this spring and he was flat out awesome. Very smart, very skilled, good size, great skater. The only glaring problem is health, but many times that is 100% out of the players hands.

Haha. Come on buddy, you've got to admit that's a pretty large part of being a legitimate prospect.

The kid is about to miss four months. This in addition to the injuries he's dealt with the last two years. Flash forward to the end of the year. How many hockey games will this kid have played in the last three years? Seriously. This is not a small issue.
