The Hockey News predicts Habs will finish 8th in East
...according to their annual yearbook.
1. Washington (Stanley Cup Champs)
2. Pittsburgh
3. Boston
4. Philadelphia
5. Buffalo
6. Tampa Bay
7. New York Rangers
8. Montreal
9. Carolina
10. Toronto
11. New Jersey
12. New York Islanders
13. Winnipeg
14. Florida
15. Ottawa
Plus, here's our current top 10 prospects according to them:
1. Louis Leblanc
2. Nathan Beaulieu
3. Jarred Tinordi
4. Danny Kristo
5. Alexander Avtsin
6. Michael Bournival
7. Aaron Palushaj
8. Joonas Nattinen
9. Mark MacMillan
10. Brendan Gallagher
That seems fair to me - they could finish anywhere between 3rd and 10th, IMO, depending on a ton of variables. 8th seems like a safe bet since we're usually around there.
If the Habs can avoid major injuries to their key players for once, they can finish anywhere in the top 6...they just need Markov/Subban/Plekanec/Cammy/Cole/Gionta to all play 70+ games.
I think the brackets for (Stanley Cup Champs) means that the team that defeats them will become them right?
Realistically, 7th-8th is where I see us ending up although it wouldn't completely surprise me if we ended up 4th-5th because we will (hopefully) have a healthy Markov and Gorges, plus the addition of Cole.
Again? It seems that every year our best case scenario is 8th, so this would be it. Now cue the 10 other magazines who rate us out of the playoffs. Screw 'em all, I say we beat 8th.
According to their guide, the habs will pot +-220goals next year
(195 of them coming from 9 players.. so I'm assuming that the 12 other players can pot each two goals for a total of 219, and that's being pessimistic.)
So yeah, 220 goals puts them at aroung 15th in the league in term of offense, but with a defensive system like Martin's, they should go way higher than 8th.

Their yearbook rankings are done by the THN staff themselves, whereas the pool guides stat predictions are done by "stats guru" Murray Townsend.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the thread title. It doesn't make any sense. Their offensive predictions are higher than what we got in 07-08, and yet they place us 8th...

How many goals do you guys think the Habs will get this year? I made a prediction and ended up with 237 for the entire team.
I don't really care about these predictions. The only thing I'm curious is that we finished ahead of Buffalo and NYR last year, we added Markov, Cole and Gorges to our roster, yet we're dropping.
I'm pretty sure they would have rated Toronto or NJ higher up if they acquired Cole, Markov and Gorges. So obviously, I don't agree with them.
I also don't see Philly being 4th. Not at all.
LOL you guys crack me up! One publication keeps putting us 8th & you guys think it's written in stone. Where else do you think we belong 2nd? Toronto keeps getting placed 10th, ask them what they think.
Anyway somethings gotta give, because I seriously doubt Jersey has another bad year, they are way to good.

Ok, so I guess you think it's statu quo for New York and Buffalo. Have you heard of a guy named Brad Richards ? Maybe Regehr, Leino, Kotalik and Ehroff ring a bell.

Buffalo is so overrated. The importance of Richards to the Rangers as well.
