Latest Bryzgalov's interview to Sports.ru

Bryzgalov’s Interview to Sports.ru (8/12/2011)
Excerpts

Money, Stars, Zhirkov

Q: Iliya what are you plans?
IB: I am returning to the USA. I need to move to Philadelphia, the preseason camps starts very soon and I will start preparing for a new season.

Q: You tweeted that you are tired from vacation. How is it ever possible after the grueling NHL season?

IB: That happens. I simply want to start working again. I have a new team, that I ned to get accustomed to, I need to get in shape and there are many more things on my “to do” list.

Q: How does it feel to be one of the highest paid NHL players?

IB: Nothing special. I have never put money first. It’s more valuable to me that I am playing on a one of the strongest teams than the numbers in the contract.

Q: If there was a club in the KHL that would double or triple your salary would you return?

IB: Of course, not. I would like to play in the strongest league in the world and beat the strongest hockey players in the world. Everyone has own priorities, for me it is constant development and perfection. And the NHL is the perfect place to satisfy these objectives.

Q: Theoretically, how many stars would agree to play in Russia for a higher pay?

IB: I do not think that many players would do that. Real stars definitely would not go. Why would they bother to do something like that? There they can achieve results that they can be proud of. What’s in Russia? Money? They can earn them in America.

Q: But Zhirkov returned, did not he?

IB: Well, you understand the real reason, right? But the other kinds of people get remembered in sport.

I will omit the part of the interview that discusses Russia and Russian hockey. C SKA

Let's be honest, Ilya. Money was a major factor.

You know what, I really don't think it was. Is it his fault that he knew homer was going to let him write his own cheque?

I said before, he clearly wanted out of phoenix, hence the i want to be the highest paid "player"

I disagree. Was it a factor? Yes. But not the main reason he is in Philly now.
