I think he has a great change of playing in 2nd/3rd line in NHL. He is a good skater (better than people here gives him the credit), has a good vision of the game, is a decent scorer and is also usable in PK. Of course he, like Leino, plays his best in PP and needs 15-18 minutes per game to be at his best.

If Pesonen can figure it out, he could potentially be a good fit on the 3rd line LW spot. If he can just find a common ground and make it work in the NHL. There is definitely a spot open for the taking if he can earn it.

Love having competition in camp, too. That's a plus.

This has been discussed in more detail on the NHL Talk and Business of hockey sections, but it doesn't take a genius to understand that NHL owners are dreaming about the type of sponsorship money the top European football clubs make for that one ad on their jerseys. I've said it before in related threads that I can see in the future NHL teams having maybe one league wide ad on the jerseys and maybe another local one on the shorts.

7 games under therrien 3 years ago, not indicative of what he can provide now, or how is game may have changed in the khl

You know, there's this other Finn, what was his name again... Leino.. Yeah, that's it. Ville Leino, who sucks at skating, is soft as butter and is now making like 5 million bucks a year in a top line in Buffalo.

Funny thing, that is.

Isn't he also the classic example of being overpaid due to a weak free agency class?

Plus he's also about 5 inches taller than Pesonen.

Only if inches are now days the same as centimetres.

Wow, some ignorant **** being said here. Like many people have corrected, Pesonen was never given a fair shot in Pittsburgh. Playing 10 shifts with Malkin and then playing with scrubs does not count as a fair shot. And Pesonen is not too soft. He may not be all that tough, but he takes the beating as well as the average skilled guy in the league. Or do too soft players regularly block shots on PK? And he's slow and a bad skater? WTF? have you guys even seen him play?

I'm not all that excited about Pesonen, but there's a top-6 spot open with the Jets, especially with Fehr being out. I'd be surprised if Pesonen doesn't get a one way contract. He's got the skill and determination, and now he has the chance too.

Pretty sure the slow skater comments were about Pulkinnen.

Leino is so skinny that it's hilarious. Height means nothing when you weight as much as a feather.

Who cares if he's overpaid. Fact is that he is a capable top line player who can't skate.
