Report: Sidney Crosby might not be ready for the start of the 2011-12 season

http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2...eason/related/

Quote:
It’s going to be tough to forecast the future of the Pittsburgh Penguins because of the still-in-limbo status of their two superstars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Malkin’s situation might actually be a little easier to gauge since he’s dealing with knee issues rather than ever-elusive concussion problems.

Now, it’s important to take any unconfirmed report with a grain of salt. With that disclaimer out of the way, Josh Rimer of NHL Home Ice reports that “three sources” told him that Crosby won’t be ready for the beginning of the 2011-12 season. Again, it’s impossible to tell how reliable those three sources are, but Rimer is a producer for a well-known hockey radio show so it probably wouldn’t behoove him to throw out a rumor without any basis.
Crosby's injury reminds me of Lindros and LaFontaine. After the concussions was never the same.

Thats pretty much confirms that Crosby is the next Lindros, he might be ok again soon but any little hit MIGHT bring the effects back... Hes never gonna be the same again.

While I can't say say I would honestly miss him. I do hope he doesn't suffer through his life from this injury.

I heard this was pretty legit.

Sucks for any player not to be able to play the game.

If Crosby is still not ready to come back (a big if until this is confirmed), then theres something more wrong then just caution. Donít forget, it will have been over NINE months since the injury by the time the pre-season startsÖ if Crosby isnít ready yet, the situation is worse then the team has said so far.

its not uncommon for a player to miss that much time or more with an injury like this and comeback eventually. that 9 months doesnt mean his concussion is a career ender , but it also doesnt bode well him

True, I mean even if a doctor says its career ending, it doesn't always make it so.

This feels more like Bergeron than Savard.

Also...

Does anyone know what grade of concussion Crosby was reported to have when it happened?

As much as I hate him when the Flyers play the Pens, I really, really hope he gets back to 100% once the season starts, even if it means him scoring 6 hattys against us this season...

I don't think it's fair to compare Crosby to Lindros and LaFontaine. I hope that he gets healthy, I know what he is going though and I can tell you that it's hell.

Rough. Hopefully no Flyers players go through concussion injuries ever again.

If, god forbid, we lose him to concussion problems for his career...do you think that's the final straw for the NHL before they make drastic changes to the hitting and fighting in the game? They'd be losing the face of the game.

Bad for the game, good for the Flyers.

I'd hate to lose him for good. Such a talented player.

I think they will be cutting down hard on certain kinds of hits: headhunting, blindside hits, hits from behind, boarding, etc. will probably earn you a Matt Cookesque type of suspension: 5-10 games and more depending on the severity. I also think that with Colie Campbell stepping down and Shanahan stepping in we will probably see blind justice, which I think is a good thing. I think the NHL may turn to the NFL's style of fines and suspensions where a player who commits the act is fined and suspended regardless of intent.

Fighting on the other hand I don't think will be taken out of the sport. Anyone who has ever played understands this.

I don't root for the guy, but I don't want to see him suffer like this. Anyone who loves the game -- regardless of his *****ing and antics -- should want him back. It's a net positive for hockey 7 days a week.

He really had two in quick succession. He was definitely concussed by the Steckel collision (I won't even call it a hit) and then right after the Hedman hit.

It would suck if his game was never the same. It would suck even more if he had to battle this the rest of his life.
